How fucking long will I have to wait!! The fucking thing already works. Why don't they release it?
>>319478474
Because Gaben got a hold of it. Enjoy the "hype" building up for the next 10 years.
Oculus rift is coming out before it
I still have no idea what the better one is
I was planning on getting this but this recent development plus a lot more software looking like it's going to be available for Oculus is making me lean towards Oculus now.

>Bothering with VR before 2025
Enjoy your 80s cellphone-equivalent VR experience

Does anyone else think the Vive's controller looks like it might be good even outside of VR? Kinda like the steam controller only less butchered.
I have no interest in 4k or VR.
I'm fine cranking up the details in 1920x1080, and I don't want to wear some goofy ass gadget to play my manchild toys after a long day at work.

Dude... the fact that you could instantly talk with another person anywhere in the world was fucking mind blowing you underage fag.

>goofy ass gadget
So mature, yet cares about what a VR headset looks like.
>Comes with motion controls
I thought everyone was in silent agreement that motion controls was a terrible idea.
I won't buy the rift, I'll buy this instead. Fuck oculus and fuck their fucking exclusives

How were 80s cellphones bad?
>>319481050
You weren't around in the 80s either kid. It's a cool technology to discuss for 30 minutes every now and then, but it isn't worth getting excited about till it's cheap, high quality and has actual content being released for it
wait 10 years, then it'll be worth the hype
>>319481350
only if they're shit.

cool technology, little-to-no actual value to everyday consumers
I'm not planning to get into VR until at least another 5 years. It feels like it'll take that long for it to actually become something worth buying, both in terms of the hardware and the software it has on it.

>You weren't around in the 80s either kid
But I was, although in my tender years.
And have you tried it? It's extremely satisfying just looking around at half-assed tech demos. It's truly a revolution like when 3D games showed up.

>hating on 80's cellphones
Get out.
>>319482169
I haven't tried it but I totally believe the hype man, I just don't think it'll be consumer-ready for at least another decade
plus like I said, there's barely any content for it yet and that won't change for quite a while
>>319482371
Sure it's not consumer-ready, but it's already so entertaining.
Hell, there are already working mods for Metroid Prime in VR!
how about ya'll use your god damned brains
things get delayed because they don't work yet or aren't ready to be released yet
i'm fine waiting for a better product

Technology is improving exponentially, not linearly. It's not comparable to the 80s or any other time.
It should be done in a few years at most.
>>319482642
They also get delayed because of bureaucracy and copyrights. Companies want to make money and they want to make it now; they release unfinished products if they can..

PhD researcher here:
Not for gaming, but for other purposes? you are behind the times.
However the Vive promises a much more solid model at a much lower cos than equivalent hardware.
Furthermore "wait till 2025". So wait 10 years? kinda like how we went from polyphonic ringtones to HD porn within 10 years?
Or how videogames now are insanely more advanced than any games from 2005?
The 80's cellphone equal was the virtual boy, since then numerous companies have created academic headsets but often it was easier to just use projections instead.
Now VR is growing rapidly, for gamers it just needs more valid support.

further support:
my phone in 2005 next to my phone in 2015
That is 10 years, back in 2005 it blew my mind that i could text and play games AND play MP3's!
Now it's just normal that I can watch HD porn whilst streaming more music than my Ipod third gen could ever play.
