I got a third party adapter and it works fine.
I got the first party one, heard it had better compatibility for Dolphin. Also it's only a few bucks more expensive.
Have both, can confirm the Nintendo one is better

I own both. Official one is plugged into the Wii U, Mayflash is plugged into the PC.
I haven't noticed a difference.
Mayflash is the all-around better choice.
