Cloud is released on the 16th along with five other characters. They'll do a spoof of Final Fantasy (the firat) with Cloud walking in the wilderness with three other characters (Link,Robin,and,Fox) and engage in combat with two newcomers (Namdai rep and Nintendo rep) appear from the shadows and challenge in an old fashion FF battle screen. There are three other characters following the ballot. Also miiverse costume features Barret's gunner outfit, Tifa's fighter suit, and Cloud's swordsman outfit. Other costumes planned also.

Bringing back Pichu makes no sense at all.
Pichu made sense back in melee as a joke character and to promote the new gen of Pokemon at the time (same reason Greninja is in this game.)

We don't know that there are six slots left, that's just figuring based on how the CSS looks; there were three in the datamine, but more could be added.
So that leaves two mystery characters for now. Could be more; there were only two free spots until the last update.
I'm hoping for three ballot characters; perhaps that's a bit much, but it seems feasible.
