The first one was better. Whilst both games were tedious due to the slow battles, the first had far more atmosphere and was more comfy, something the second misses.
Just wish nintendo was intelligent enough to know where they fucked up instead of just burning it all. played both games 4 times desu.

It has pluses and minuses compared against colosseum, but overall it's better just because it's more refined and thus much less slow to play. Just enabling speeding up the text did wonders.

Neo-Cipher or whatever they were called was shit compared to the actual menacing Cipher before you took them down the first time. They actually did shit and controlled Oree from behind the scenes. Plus you also had to deal with Team Snagem who were pretty cool too

Neo-Cipher or whatever they were called were the actual Team Cipher. The Cipher group in the first colosseum game were just a small group part of the much larger Team Cipher. You could say that in the first game Cipher was controlling Orre as a part of their much grander scheme to control the other regions, but (You) the protagonist stop them early. The real Cipher then comes back after 5(?) years and this time just straight out invades Orre with their entire force.
Also Team Snagem. You encountered them a total of 2 times in the story. In the very beginning then they fuck off for the rest of the game until the very end where they reveal oh no they were partners with Cipher the entire time. In the sequel Cipher told them to fuck off because the real Cipher has no need for small time crooks.
The second game is objectively better than Colosseum. For other reasons too: Shadow Pokemon were just better in the sequel. More Shadow attacks other than Shadow Rush on everything. Some with insane effects like Shadow Super Fang that hits everyone or Shadow Rain Dance. Plus purification rewards you with egg moves, TM moves, move tutor moves, and special XD moves. Albeit the XD moves were almost always shit like Charm or Refresh. You got some cool ones like Heal Bell Dragonite, Baton Pass Lunatone, Morning Sun Scyther, Psycho Boost Lugia.
The most important update is that you can save anywhere you want unlike in Colosseum where you can only save at a PC.Both games are the tightest shit ever though
