Have ever made a videogame?

Was it good or fun?
>>
It's fun for maybe a few minutes at a time. It's more of an arcade-y high score thing that I made mainly to practice programming.

Yes, not it wasn't. It was a shitty rock, paper, scissors clone.

Yep, a very simple project in unity, a 'survival zombie shooter' with a bizarre name. It wasn't particularily great but me and the other 3 were very proud of it, gathered a ton of people at the school exhibition too
>>
Am a developer who made an Assassin Creed game at one point in the 4 years. Currently freelancing for 3 studios. Unity wasn't my fault btw. It's fun to make games, but sometimes it's hard to take in comments that aren't constructive criticism especially when I read comments in /v/ neogaf, and occasionally youtube.

>Think of making a video game
>realize I can't code for shit, and have no tallet at animation, art, design, music, or anything required to make a game
>>
I can probably make a full game right now with fucking everything and take a month to finish and polish between the college winter break

But then I'll realize I made a full game without any sound or music
>>
I made one for a C++/OpenGL programming course. I did a horrible job coding it, and the game itself was simple and relatively boring.

it's cable TV games your grampa plays with his remote, though.
still trying to get a job on proper games, but all I get hired for is my oculus rift experience.

I have not made any video games. But I'm considering building up a small 2D game in Unreal for fun. I can steal all the assets I want if it's only for me, and developing 2D in that engine sounds interesting.
>>
I wish I had a copy of it, but when I was in 5th grade I decided to make a small adventure puzzle game with graphics based on Pokemon.

It was horrible. Some sprites were really big, while enemy sprites were extremely small. Collision was horrible and you could get OoB on most levels. Resolution changed more often than EA changes a game. Some enemies made you restart a level, others made you repeat the level before, others made you restart the entire game. It had a power up system that essencially just changed what character you played as.

It was 25 levels, and I swear I have no idea how the fuck did I finish the game during playtest.

Though the hard drive that game was made on is forever lost due to PS3 formatting and I have no idea whenever or not I have a backup.

I am the creator of Excel Rayne

It gets 20 players daily.

It's a text-based roleplaying game, so the primary purpose is the roleplay and story/plot content

However, when the RP is not in session there is the Arena/Dungeon/Raiding systems where you can grind dungeons and hardcore boss battles that demand a lot of fucking teamwork, more then half of /v/ would probably be able to muster.

Like, you might be thinking "how can a TEXT game demand teamwork", then you see the boss mechanics i pump out on a daily basis.

It's a shame that whenever I host it on /v/ most people just see the UI and log out, not even seeing the real meat of the game.

Well, at least you know what you can improve
>>

That puts me off more than anything about that UI, if I'm honest
Haven't you tried /tg/? Or do you just get shut out because it's vidya?
>>
>>319466971
Here is an example of one of the hardcore story bosses in the game

>Naeris

Boss Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPVZgdxFxAo

The God of Death, Mors Incarnati, fused with the body of his contracted summoner, Syrin. Being an Ex-God (Exiled into the moral domain by his fellow gods), his power is fucking massive, even in a mortal form. His first phase consists of him summoning his guardian, Umbra Apparitio, an ascended human turned divine weapon, to protect him.

Umbra Apparitio casts an invulnerability field making both her and Naeris invincible, any attacks deal 0 damage. The only way to stop the barrier is for one of your team members to use the fight-specific ultimate attack 'Life Sacrifice', which will sacrifice their life to take down the barrier.

What's more, is that every time Umbra Apparitio kills someone, it creates a shadow doppelganger of the enemy that copies their moveset/weapons/stats, but has even greater stats. So the fight really punishes dying.

If you manage to take down Umbra Apparitio, Naeris will enter phase 2. He will occasionally use 'Excel Rayne' attacks which are heavy hitting AOEs, but at least you won't get doppelgangers if Naeris kills you, it's still rough though.

He'll also cast clock walls that block your team from even using items until you can kill the clock, the fanbase has likened to the term "clockblocking" for this part. If you are clocked, you must kill your clock before you can even throw a potion on a teammate, or else you'll be healing the clock.

In the final phase, Naeris starts using the excel virus, which will turn all of your party members evil after 3 turns. This is pretty severe mechanic as you'll have to quickly kill and revive everyone in your party while Naeris is still dishing out hard-hitting AOEs. The most ideal is thing to do is kill Naeris as fast as possible before he can use this attack muliple times.

Overall, Naeris is one of the hardest bosses in the entire game, and is a plot boss.

>Haven't you tried /tg/? Or do you just get shut out because it's vidya?

Generally, this happens

>/v/ says "It's traditional role-playing, go to /tg/"

>/tg/ says "It's a videogame, go to /v/"

rinse and repeat 4ever

>>319467092
touche. I'm a programmer, not an artist, but i've been thinking of re-programming the entire UI into HTML5, but i know jack shit about web formatting and design.
>>
I once made a little text-based adventure game in Object Pascal for computer class in high school.
I messed up, however, and picking up items in the wrong order would make the game unwinnable.
The code itself was a huge mess but it was fun doing it.

I remember sitting in on this game a few years ago, but since I just kind of jumped in in the middle I wasn't going to have any impact on anything and gave up after about 15 minutes.

I miss Byond when it wasn't just SS13
>>
>>319468524
you wanted to see MMO level clusterfuck mechanics or something?

Because there's non-story bosses in the game too made for raid-difficulty bosses that aren't directly plot related.

Hahaoya, and Shi come to mind.
>>
I'm in the process of planning out my visual novel. I've decided to write out the lore shit first so that I can refer to it and make sure everything fits.

Except I now have a small bible and I don't really want to write the VN, instead I want to continue this shit forever. I'm sure I'll reach a point where I man up and just write it, but until then it's lore autism. Plus I'm too scared of trying to find an artist/music person.

>>319469043
It's still running, and getting RP Content once in a millenium. There's a skype group for it and everything.

I might be hosting it tonight.

However, the mainline RP storyline ended for era 1. It will stay ended until era 2, which is a different videogame altogether.
>>
>>319468669
Maybe some people on /agdg/ can help you. I never tried to make a game or visited those amateur dev threads, so I'm not sure if those people are alright or not

I tried making a text adventure in python when I was starting to learn programming, ended up being like 200 lines for about 5 minutes of playtime. When I showed it to my teacher to evaluate the code he said that I could've made it in about a third of code. I decided to learn some more before actually making a game.

I made a pac man like in which you were obama and ran around eating pennys nickels dimes ect. i never could figure out how to get his mouth to open and close so it was just a static image moving sorta
>>
I made what you might confuse with a videogame from a distance in a program called microworlds on an imac in my middle school's computer lab.

It was just a couple of levels where you had to dodge enemies with WASD while moving towards an objective.

>try game maker in 2009
>too hard and garbage
>pick up construct 2 in 2012
>every idea i have for a 2d game i can easily implement in a few minutes without knowing coding

It literally can't get easier, and i'm still to lazy to finish a game. Everytime I hop in with a crazy idea i still make it happen though. Too bad it will always look bad like every constuct 2 game because no art
