I agree, people don't change that radically that fast in real life and I prefer a character that is confident in his beliefs and abilities that I can identify with over 'character development'. I always viewed Vesperia as the rare instance where you play the 'mentor' character and Karol was more your traditional character arc.

What I DID mind was how fast she got over everything and went to being the party's team mom. One of the major themes of Graces was family and friends- and Asbel was at the center of that. He was a good son to Kerri, he repaired his relationship with Hubert, he acted as a father figure to Sophie, he never stopped believing in Richard.

I really enjoyed Arc Rise Fantasia a lot more than I thought. I think the fact they dealt the main story problem without going the defacto stupid decesions was refreshing.
Also shit was tough for a turnbased game. Limited elemental gear and weapon skill system really made you adapt differently vs just gearing up everyone same way as usual.
People act like Graces has this great deep combat but really it's just flashy by nature so everyone can do the cool shit that you used to see on some autistic kids youtube channel. It has just about the worst use of the cc system
