Because they weren't open about it being timed until they got pressed about it. People thought MS had bought the rights to make it a legit exclusive originally, which is why they chimped out so badly.

They had no other options, It kinda sucks for them.
MS would have made the deal so they had something of similar nature to battle Unharted 4 for the holidays, but then Uncharted 4 was delayed to next year.
So they could let it ride and just have it go up against fallout, or keep it back till next year.
The problem with keeping it till next year is they will probably be giving up some sales, cause they wouldn't wait till Uncharted is out in March, thats to long to hold a game back for no reason, so they would have released it in January or Feburary, which is right after the holiday sales rush and right in when people aren't buying much stuff.
I honestly feel like the exclusivity deal will backfire for them, xbone sales were probably ok but nothing amazing, it has a chance to get another spike in sales when it comes out on ps4 at the end of next year, but then its got ps4 exclusives to deal with like Horizon Zero Dawn and NiOh which I'm assuming will be out then, not to mention the countless new multiplats that will be out.

Tomb Raider before the reboot was a series I associated more with playstation, and the reboot even sold better on playstation.

He resized it or something, you can save .pngs from the Xbox site. It does render at 1920x1080 but it does use lower resolution particle buffers and other shit like a lot of PS3 games did. Also has some parts that look truly horrible due to an effect not dissimilar to TLOU's radiosity effect. Basically makes everything that isn't well lit look low-res as fuck.
