I just bought an SSD. Which games will benefit most from the increased speed?
>>319403897

>>319403897
gtaV. Games with long loading times. I got an 850 Pro 512gb and GTA v takes less than 30 seconds to load from click on icon to world. It's pretty great.
Battlefield 4 went from 30 to 10 second loads
team with more SSDs will cap central flags first
>>319406058
>from 30 to 10 second loads
>from 30
>to 10
What the fuck? My load times are probably close to 120 seconds on a 7200rpm HDD.

$100 for a 480GB SanDisk Ultra II
>>319406696
Nice, that means you could buy nearly 2 tbs of regular memory storage when you return that POS.
Stop being a retard. Just buy a better graphics card or upgrade your cpu.
>>319403897
Other than load times the only game I'd say it helps on is BF4. Can't remember the exact reasoning but it's something to do with the way textures load in while playing.
Also you don't want to fill up your ssd to the max. You'll wear it down a lot faster unless you have one of those new fancy m.2 samsungs.
>buying anything but a 120GB SSD for your OS and a few vital programs
Retards.
Shogun 2 was unbearable before I got an SSD. Mind you, it's still far from perfect, but at least now I don't need some book to occupy me while 'playing'.
>>319406656
if i buy a second ssd will games load just as fast as if its on the one with my os?

>STOP HAVING NICE THINGS
Just because you don't have them doesn't mean they're bad. Cry somewhere else.
i have 4 ssd's
and all games/programs load stupid fast.
it makes a slow computer feel like a fast new one, and a fast computer just feel even faster.
boot time is sub 10 seconds, the monitors are the last things to power on.
loading screens are so short i hardly have time to read anything that flashes on screen. i can fast travel in skyrim and fallout nv and i average a 1/2 second load screen.
Well in this thread there's some actual sour grapes
Open-world games that stream in assets, or engines like Unreal 3 that stream textures will have the most noticeable improvement.
Pretty much all game will load noticeably quicker though.
Games like Fallout/TES where you go through a lot of load-points are much more enjoyable with an SSD as well.
Some older multiplayer games allow you to spawn or select a class before other players if you load in first, though most newer games have a timer. I know Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm allows you to choose a class before other players if you load in first, which gives you first dibs on the limited classes like sniper.
arma 3 on a ssd gives you 10-15 fps worth of difference, no shit.
>>319406696
oh wow, are SSDs that cheap now?
I still remember blowing like 50 bucks for a 60 GB one. time to upgrade i guess
>poorfags who somehow think ssd's are a scam
i cant believe you people exist, fuckin casuals
>>319407632
i dont have them because they are useless in the idea of saving memory. I just got a r9 390x that does a fuckton better in saving time and being speedy over a fucking SSD
>>319406696
>tfw Canada
$100 doesn't even get you a 250gb ssd
>>319407737
I just bought a 120GB for $40 as a gift. Enough to hold your OS+Apps and a handful of frequently played games.
>>319403897
>Which games will benefit most from the increased speed?
Barely any, and very little at that.
SSD's are for quick booting.

>>319407494
Ssds are alot more reliable than they used to be. Plus the price per gb is falling steadily. I wouldn't be surprised if having just an ssd for storage in 3 to 4 years is the norm.

>games

>>319407706
An SSD will not increase performance like that. Sounds to me like the real problem is you don't have enough RAM and an SSD has reduced the stuttering a bit.
>>319408107
>benchmarking an ssd from 2011

it is still working.
so the meme of ssd's dying should be very wrong at this point.

Well your GPU won't decrease loading and boot times either you mongoloid. And framerate is mainly influenced by your CPU. Can we please stop this now?

Anything with long or often load times, anything that needs to constantly load in new areas

I shouldve waited a few more days for Fry's to put Patriot's 480 GB SSD on sale for around $100
Why is Samsung that much more expensive?
>>319403897
How much storage do you guys end up using anyway? I have 120GB SSD and 1TB HDD currently, and it feels like I barely need a half of that.
I install everything on mine, browser, internet security, games etc.. and treat it like a normal HD.
Amuses me when i see people baby their SSD's. Literally a waste of money.

>>319409147
I got 1 240gb ssd, 2 1 tb harddrives and a 2 tb external, currently using more than half of it for movies, series and games
I have a 5 inch cock
>>319409201
I'll tell myself that to justify my purchase of a SSD 34 dollars more expensive than another SSD of similiar storage space. I got a free Asscreed Syndicate uplay code from Fry's for buying the Samsung SSD too, but I don't care for that game.
>>319408448
Sweet Jesus
I actually had that cpu until recently. New cpu and board and stuff in the mail now.
Should save some dosh and upgrade friend
>>319408448
>DDR2 @ 333MHz
so what's the benefit of an ssd if you dont put your games on it? just faster booting?
i was planning on picking up one for myself soon but was going to put my most played games on it to improve load times
i want to buy one for the release of Dragons Dogma but i heard they break pretty fast.
What are the recommended brands?
>>319410765
>i heard they break pretty fast.
At this point they're more durable than hard drives, and under standard use will likely last about ten years.
>>319410580
the benefit is putting your games and OS, nothing else. Sadly games with long loading are 20-50gb so dont expect to have many of them unless you get an expensive one.
>>319410208
Not that guy, but I'm hoping to upgrade from a Phenom II soon as well.
I really want to be able to play TW: Attila at 60fps, as of now I can't break 40fps even when nothing is going on.
>they STILL don't have an m.2 drive
enjoy being capped at 550MB/s read, i'll be over here enjoying my 2000MB/s
>>319407494
>blow up within a year
you mean 10 years, right? because the average ssd has a better lifetime than the average hard drive.
>not owning an intel 1.2 TB PCI express SSD or a similar M.2 drive
gaymers, everyone. poor as fuck and always the last ones to adopt
>>319411389
I'd like to try that. Will the trial version just tell me my SSD is about to explode and I should go buy a new one now, or is it as legit as paid one.
>>319411564
the screenshot is of the trial version.
there's also crystaldiskinfo, if you want to check the health of your drive.
>>319411525

>>319411849
it doesn't stop there
>>319411954
Nice. That 4TB one is more than my year salary.
>>319406058
I have no issues with load times with it on my blue. I load in while there's still 20 seconds on the map start.

Who makes the best SSDs? I was going to go with a 120gb HyperX FURY because 500MB/s read/write

>BF4 on HDD

Yeah, some guy basically has PC thats worth more than your new car.
I have a 128GB and it fits Windows and like one or two medium sized games. I's nice for those, but I have a lot more games that have shit load times. GTA5 takes forever and it can't even fit on it by itself after Windows.
Gonna wait until 500 GB ones are really cheap and get another.
>>319412756
intel and samsung.
kingston switched to cheaper parts after they got good reviews, so stay away from them.
>>319412575

my mobo has only SATA2 but ssd's worked fine.
any idea if SATA3 will make any noticeable difference?
I must be getting old but is a SSD a storage device but wireless?
>>319414416
its a very, VERY fast hard disk, grandpa.
>>319414540
So it is a hard disk but nothing external right?
>>319414416
It functions like a hard disk, but has no disk. Instead, it uses something like flash memory.
Significantly faster than an HD, but also significantly more expensive per GB. Frugal people usually buy a relatively small one just to keep the OS and a few important applications for fast boot times and load times.
>>319414797
i guess it could be external if you really wanted.
