One major change is the lack of coziness. Instead of a fat guy making goofy videos in his house, he's got a professionally written script with high-end camera equipment and lighting in a hollow studio. It lacks the authenticity of the old videos.
The fact the show's an advertisement and promoting various shit (mcdonald's, star trek, etc) also takes away from it. Instead of just being an autist complaining about shit, he pokes fun at it and kind of dances around the fact he can't criticize them too hard.

You know it's funny when Arin and Jon were going through their whole thing, my best friend and I were basically having the same experience except the deal was I'm a poorfag and he works for a major company now.
He just stopped wanting to play video games, he started getting offended over jokes, when our old friends (some of whom are going through a really rough time) wanted to hang out, I'd say to him "cmon man x's parents just split, or you know y's been down a lot" but his response was basically "I don't feel like doing certain things and if I'm cunt I guess I'm a cunt", then he'd proceed to go out with his work buddies who's known for like 2 years in full suit and tie and have zero fun, despite telling the rest of us he was just gonna stay in. No girl chasing, no antics, just real straight and narrow work party stuff over his good friends who've known him his whole life.
Then I made a stupid stupid mistake. I made a very low key pass at his sister ie. basically said "i like you", she freaked out and so that's how I lost my best friend of 20+ years. He basically didn't give a fuck at that point though, not that he would have any say. He's one of those guys that basically lets women walk all over him.
We went from Stan and Kyle in South Park to basically Arin and Jon in the space of 2 years because reasons I can't even really fucking grasp still.
Probably a friend who picks a corporation over you to make weekend plans with isn't a great friend, but oh well..
