Not sure which single game is the best.
But there is no question that the Forza and Gran Turismo series are the undisputed champs of the genre.
Honorable mention for project cars (but only with a high end steering wheel setup).
Depends if you want realism or not. I enjoyed NFS Underground 2, Most Wanted (the original), and mostly Carbon.
Burnout 3 was a ton of fun to just fuck around in. I guess the Forza series is alright for realism.

The graphics arent nearly as good as the competition. But the game still looks good.
WAY fewer cars than gran turismo.
Great physics, challenging, fun to advance through career mode.
If you have a decent steering wheel setup, it's a lot more interesting to drive than GT because you get so much more feedback. If you're on controller and enjoy a huge variety of cars, you'd be a fool to pick PC over GT.

While I also despise the "trendy music festival" setting, the Horizon games are amazing. GO buy Horizon 2 when you can. Plenty of people still play, and it's your fault you bought the turd that was 5. Forza 5 is probably one of the single worst sequels i've ever played, and a huge step back from 4 in almost every conceivable way. It's worth noting that the Forza Hub app on Xbone keeps track of stats and miles driven in both 4 and Horizon despite them being on the 360, so if you want to get some extra credits in those games fire up your Xbone and see if there's any rewards

Horizon games are more arcade for sure, but not by enough to hinder the fun. Especially since the landscape is open and there are many places to dodge/avoid, unlike downtown GTA. Plus the damage is non existent in horizon.
That GTA mod i was talking about has hyper realistic acceleration, braking, and damage. So you will pretty much fuck your car up beyond repair as soon as you hit something (which will be about 7 seconds after you steal the car) at even low speeds, just like a real car.
That mod is a fucking chore.

I still shake my head at how badly ISI stumbled on rF2 and how RRRE is monetized. Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but it's clear both were out of the gates way too early and trying to capitalize on a small community when it's clear everyone's moved on.
Project CARS is commendable for bringing realism to the mass market, but it's nowhere near the complete package like iRacing, rF1, or GSCE.
I love AC, but Kunos keeps confusing me as to where they want to go.

No matter what you're looking for in a racing sim, either Assetto, iRacing, rF, or P.Cars will do it better for significantly better value. It has Forza tier physics and an Oh Vey business model.

Most concept cars are over-styled. Gets people wowed up about the design and then it gets toned down to something that complies with DOT regs. Then you have style exercises like the Mazda Furai.
