Why are there no good Superman games?
>>
Same reason there are no good Godzilla games.
>>
>>319368373
It's because they keep setting it in Metropolis where they need to set it in a place that is on Superman's power level. Perhaps Apocolyspe or Warworld.
>>
>>319368373
No one knows how to work free flying into a good combat system.
>>
honestly they should just make it a storyline type of game, you basically play the comics but in a game.

you could have hundreds of stories, you don't really need to worry about mooks then
>>319368562
this could work
>>319368740
same reason iron man games suck

Because it's always a generic beat-em-up or freeroam game. Superman isn't about that. The only way a Superman game would be enjoyable and faithful to the source material is if it were more focused on the character rather than what he can do.

Think of a visual novel or a telltale game, one that goes in depth about a God trying to be a man, about a guy that could potentially destroy all life if he really wanted to but rather just does what he thinks is right and inspires hope in the eyes of those that need it.

>Think of a visual novel or a telltale game

as much as I hate TT, that pretty much is the only way Superman could ever work in a game, just a bunch of moral choices and such.
>>
>>319368373
You'd probably have to set it when he was young and his powers were still developing. He's a character capable of effortlessly circling the globe in seconds and lifting celestial bodies. Outside of Darkseid, Brainiac, Doomsday and other heavy hitters there aren't many villains who pose a genuine physical threat.

Maybe if they made an open-world game that was based around Metropolis or Kansas and had you slowly earning more powers as you progress. So you steadily go from running at superspeed to flying. They'd just need to come up with a way for him not to crash into civilians.

Because all of Supermans best stories, like For the Man Who Has Everything, Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow and All-Star Superman, are totally character based.

As far as being an actiony superhero is concerned he's a boring one that doesn't translate well into a videogame setting. The only options are to rip him away from his most recognizable supporting characters and Metropolis to do a cosmic DC game, where other characters would be a better fit for a protagonist, or to limit the player with a city health bar or focusing on a child Clark.

Would a telltale Superman game work and could it be good?
>>
Because Superman is boring and just punches his way through 99% of his problems. Other heroes have to come up with different ways to overcome their villains but only Doomsday and maybe Darkseid are actually a match for Supes.

I think Telltales formula is simple enough that anything could work. Good storytelling based on interesting characters/settings that already have a fanbase associated with them with simplistic but enjoyable point and click gameplay. What could go wrong?

Better question is why there are hardly any super hero games period anymore.

The best super hero game I've played recently shouldn't be a fucking lego one god damn it.

I think one of the better ways to approach making a Superman game would be to go over the top (not necessarily through style) with scenarios and situations. From what I understand, some DC characters (like The Flash) can be really overpowered and I think that's something that needs to be considered. I think it was Rocksteady that said they couldn't make a Superman game in the same style of their Arkham games because it wouldn't match or fit, but I think the first problem there is them thinking they have to make a Superman game be familiar to their Arkham games. I don't see a reason why Superman can't leave Metropolis to have the setting take place somewhere else. Doing that alone could prevent the majority of the game being hostage/escort-based. I know there's Lex Luthor, but that alone shouldn't prevent other enemies from being explored.

We then get to what scenarios could be made that would fit into a game. I don't know all of Superman's allies/friends/enemies/rivals/adversaries/etc., so I can't properly create a hypothetical situation that could possibly work. You can tell me if I'm wrong about this, but I think most of the progress through the game would be interaction and character-based among the different characters of the game where it's not strictly reduced to "punch this person, robot, or thing and go to the next level." Again, I'm not going to make a situation because I don't have enough knowledge on Superman to make one properly, but I'm just thinking how someone can make a character with a lot of strength interesting for a game.

We've had a god tier Superman game.

Reminder that the studio that make Arkham Origins is currently developing two unnamed DC properties. One might be another prequel Arkham game, the other could be anything.,
>>
>>319373554
despite capeshit strangling the movie industry vidya has fortunately remained free of it's taint except for the Arkham games
>>
>>319368373
Because it's a shitty boring superhero.

And you're calling the /co/ autists.

>>319374393
see?
>>
>>319375359
I don't even visit /co/. I don't see how discussing a possibility of a Superman game or why there aren't a lot of good hero games in general makes me an autist.
>>
>>319376102
Children tend to enjoy moral centric protagonists. It appeals to the moral policeman freshly instilled in their young brain. Older audiences tend to enjoy characters who are reflective of real people, characters who are morally ambiguous or at the very least are logically fleshed out.

Adults who cling to black and white heroes are essentially overgrown children. It is likely they own every silly piece of plastic Nintendo has spawned and think the WiiU is an innovation. We need less superhero games and not more.
>>
>>319372297
The last thread was a blatant SvB thread.
>>
The real reason there are no GOOD Superman games is because they are made by people who don't know the details nor care about the character itself. If you actually had a lead designer who cares about the character with a competent team. They could very well make a decent game. I have ideas of how to make one, but I'm no video game designer. I would only hope that someday there will be a decent Supes vidya game made before I die.
>>
>>319368373
Because there are is literaly no villian than Supes can't kill with one hit.
Even if there was, just look at Superman Prime, that shit is as OC as Supes can get.
That's why only Batman games get to be good.
Also no one like a boy scout,
>>
>>319377050
>Darkseid
>Doomsday
>Mongul

Superman Prime is as strong as he can get but it required him to sun bathe for years. It isn't something he got quickly or easily.

Speak for yourself edgelord.

You mean adults with no imagination, or refusal of escapism through heroic figures, in stories. Worker bees, and robot drones. Gotcha nigger.
>>
I quite honestly feel like Platinum games could work a miracle and have a Superman game work.
>>
>>319376304
I didn't see it or think of it as people needing to cling to heroes in this case. I'm not a superhero/comic person myself which is why I mentioned I don't have much knowledge about it. I really only talked about how could this concept be made into a game without feeling incorrect or off-putting given the subject matter.
>>
>>319377227
If Supes stopped giving a fuck for one year and went sun bathing for that time, he could fucking destroy anyone.
