The fight was boring and lame. The only "technology" moment that is possible is shooting the pipes to put of his fire with water. Even then, it's never more practical than just shooting him in the face.
That's the problem with Metal Gear in general, really. You're always extremely overequipped to face relatively simple challenges. Only in the VR missions are your resources ever balanced for the scenario at hand and those are (not surprisingly) the peak of the series gameplay-wise.

Other than slicing his suit for big damage and the water pipes the Fury fight was just moving from lane to lane to avoid fire which he takes a long time to telegraph and wait till he passes a corner. It's not bad, just forgettable, and anything but underrated.

Something I was wondering about The Fury after my previous playthrough of MGS3. The only thing he mentions about his backstory is the whole astronaut thing. But if he along with the rest of the Cobras fought in WWII, what was he like BEFORE he went to space and nearly died? Since WWII was a bit before the space race started to kick off. Did he still use a flamethrower, or what?
