I imagine something like NX Vanilla is a platform on par if not a little stronger than the other manufacturers' 8th gen platforms, and then come the 9th generation family, you can get a comparatively cheaper addon that gives it a power boost into the succeeding generation.
Like swapping out PC parts for stronger versions, but instead of swapping them out, you just wire them into a stronger machine with a better CPU, GPU, etc. while you've got all the moving parts in the main NX body.
And a whole plethora of amazing games to go with it!

Consoles were designed to be retardproof, especially nowadays when all you have to do is plug the electrical plug into an outlet and an HDMI cable into a TV. All this is asking for is a few more wires, or even some kind of Voltron thing where you slap the NX console into an even bigger console.

Agreed. I don't think that they can do some weird multi-gen thing or anything else that would REQUIRE more power than the base unit provides. This consumer base thinks that the Wii U is a tablet addon to the Wii, you cannot trust them.
What it IS good for is showing off how much more powerful your console is than the competition. Sell something slightly stronger than the PS4 for a decent price point, maybe 250-300 dollars bundled with a few games, and then every time you release a game show it off both with and without the addons.
People will pay attention if you show your 30/720 with 4x AA off next to a 60/1080 with 16x AA. For only $150 extra, that could be yours! etc etc
The competition can't sell their consoles on being the strongest or the nicest looking if Nintendo's stuff is the strongest and the nicest-looking. The competition can't exploit the generation gap by releasing something even stronger 2-3 years later if it's the same power as what the NX + addon have been doing for those 2-3 years.
It's a good concept, and with the right implementation, it's a hard strategy to counter.
Release NX in 2016, comparable to PS4
PS5 releases in 2018, release NX expansion pak to bump it up to PS5 levels, and also release a stand-alone NX+ with it all built in.

You want to release the expansion pack immediately. In business and marketing, the first "big guy" to do something and hype it up is basically protected from competition. Look at Apple, look how people acted when the competition released smartphones and tablets.
If Nintendo releases their expansion back alongside the NX, and actually fucking markets it, it takes away all of the PS5's credibility.

They tried that with the wii u and look at where that got them. I don't think it's very marketable to attach a $100 - $150 add-on to a console that has no games that will take advantage of it besides the maybe 2 first party titles that would make the effort. Ninty needs to be patient this time around. Get a lot of third party support, keep pumping out a lot of first party titles. Then as soon as the ps5 or xbox2 gets announced, BAM NX+ running shit at whatever crazy specs it'll be rocking.
But none of this matters if it doesn't have any fucking games. The one thing that it could do to give itself a great head start is to launch with a pokemon game. That shit would get people really hype and really buying. That and Monster Hunter. Fuck, I don't even know why but I really want Ninty to succeed this time. They're the only company that doesn't outright fucking despise it's customers and I appreciate that.

The Wii U was underpowered and undermarketed. The reason it didn't work was due to the exact thing I mentioned - everyone had already done HD, everyone was used to tablets, nothing Nintendo did was impressive.
This being a hybrid would open up a lot of possibilities, I agree. Getting to have traditionally handheld-only games on it would be a great boost.
Though I still don't see how they'd handle the SKUs. You could give away the NX console for free bundled with the handheld and people would complain that they couldn't buy just the handheld.
I just want to know more about what sort of crazy shit Nintendo has brewing. Whether is succeds or not is another story, but with all these wacky rumors swirling around about it I wanna know what actually sticks.
