Tell me everything you know about this game.

Are the enhanced editions worth it?

Are there any must have mods?

Any builds or classes that make the game shotty for a first timer?
>>
You should play BG1 first
>>
>>319321834
how come? Is it the same characters or world?
>>
>>319321936
Yes
>>
I hear bad things about the enhanced edition. Are these claims founded?
>>
>>319321295
Yeah

>>319321936
Yup

>>319322217
Affirmative
>>
Will I like this game if I hated BG1? Main things I didn't like were generic plot/world.
>>
>>319322317
yea
>>
What are some must have mods?

Not really.
>Are there any must have mods?
If you feel like you missed out on BG1, install Tutu and start over. If you carry all the way to Throne of Bhaal (the very last story module), install Ascension mod.
>Any builds or classes that make the game shotty for a first timer?
Not unless you know what you're doing. But Paladin (notably Cavalier or Inquisitor) is a relatively easymodo choice that also gets some of the best gear in the game.

BG2 is the least generic cRPG i can think of, excluding planescape torment. Main plot is still quite generic, including the villain motivation, but the execution is perfect, and the sidequests are all golden and innovative on their own.

>>319322795
I don't remember much, but for newcomers all i would recomend would be unfinished business (restore cut content) and banter packs (your party members will interact more often).

Enhanced Edition adds some quality of life improvements (quick loot, increased stack size on arrows and potions, etc), and some new content, only acessable if you play with their new NPCs in your party. Most of them are annoying/poorly written, the only ones you should be playing with would be Dorn (if playing an edgy chaotic evil party) or Rasaad (lawful good moralfag party), Neera is le quirky female face and Hexxat is mary sue fanfiction tier.

Beamdog writting is horrid (at least with those npcs), but gladly, they haven't added anything new besides their new npcs, which you can avoid. And all BG2 mods work with BG2EE, Ascension excluded, but you shouldn't be running difficulty enhancing mods as a beginner, vanilla will be hard enough.

Thanks very much

My main concern with the EE is that people are talking about bugs, is there mods to fix those or is it better just going with the original version, or do they just not matter? The EE is proving substantially easier to get hold of
>>
>>319323868
>special snowflake extra characters
true that, out of all the new characters only rasaad is tolerable. and even though they have been repeatedly warned not to overdo the new characters, they nevertheless did it. especially neera is a pain in the ass.

still have high hopes for dragonspear, chris avellone spoke highly of it.
>>
>>319323868
The hidden character in EE1 was cool. I liked the EEs, although it took an entire year for it to get patched of some awful bugs.
>>
>>319324316
BG2EE used to be filled with bugs, even new bugs that weren't present on vanilla edition. But right now, its really solid, i'm playing it and no noticeable bugs so far.

>>319324590
The worst offender on the new characters on the enhanced editions were the party banters. Like Korgan being afraid of Hexxat. Korgan never gets scared about anything, no dragons, no hell, no sarevok, nothing, but shits his paints when faced with beamdog's new marysue? Nigga please.

Dorn and Rasaad were cool, tho.

>>319321936
Skip 1. The max level in 1 is simply not high enough. You end up being max level way before the end of the game. The second game has more quests to enjoy I think, but that's purely opinion.
>>
>>319323868
>jon irenicus' motivation is generic
lol
>>
>>319325347
he literally just wanted revenge

whatever though, his dialogue and design are the best parts about him. his motive is unoriginal, but at least it's believable.
>>
>>319325298
>>319323825

What does Tutu do?
>>
>>319325347
His motivation was generic, his execution was perfect. One of the coolest cRPG villains out there.
>>
>>319325613
Conjoins BG1 and BG2 to form one long game in the BG2 engine. Some things are changed as a result (Imoen doesn't automatically dual-class to mage, e.g.).
>>
>>319325942
That sounds great though, do you know if I need both games for it to work? Does it work with the EE? Any changes that fuck things up?
>>
>>319326068
If you play the enhanced editions you don't need a mod, the enhanced editions will make it work already.
>>
>>319322217

I played through 1 EE and 2 EE and had zero problems. They even have mod support by now and include a ton of mods themselves so I don't see a reason not to play them.

Also it's not a popular opinion, but I like neera and I think it's cool that they added the new companions to both bg1&2
>>
>>319326221
>>319326271
OK thanks, I guess I'l do that then
>>
>>319326068
You need both games installed for Tutu to work. EE doesn't count, but both native and GOG versions do. Aside from the mashed loading screens, and no abusable BG1 balance (give everyone bows lol) there's nothing to marr it.
>>
So I'm going to play the enhanced editions, starting with BG1, and I'm just going to use the unfinished business and banter pack mods. Sound good? Missing anything?
>>
>>319326898
You're all set. Just keep in mind that BG1 is a really hate-it-or-love-it game, and if find it to be boring, you can just skip to BG2, everything you need to know will be explained on the intro/certain characters.

If you do like BG1, however, you are in for a hell of a ride. No other RPG features such a grand adventure as that of BG1 > BG2 > ToB, and playing ever since from BG1 will allow your character to be even more powerful, thanks to magical tomes. I'll not spoil it any further.

The Saerileth mod is mandatory
>>
>>319327259
Thanks, but your post makes me wonder: if both games can run on the same engine, what makes BG1 so divisive?
>>
>>319327406

you start at level 2 in BG1 and low level D&D is horse shit without a gm to bend the rules for you.
>>
>>319327373
>recruit saerileth
>romance her 14yo ass
>cheat on her with drow hookers
>literally dies of broken heart
>>
>>319326898
BG2 Tweaks has a ton of QOL improvements if you want to slog through all the options. Contrary to it's name, it works on BG1 as well.

DO NOT use any romance mods.

>>319327406
It's based on D&D campaign logic instead of video game logic. You don't reach max level in the game, instead you get to like 8 and BG2 has levels 8-20.
>>
>>319327406
These are D&D based games, and D&D characters are really weak and frail on lvl 1, specially casters. Frail characters, combined with slow leveling, slow pacing (the plot takes a while to kick in) and unforgiving enemies (if you're not experienced with D&D games, chances are the first mage you'll ever face will kick your ass) turns many people off.

When the plot does kick off and you finally get a grip on how the game works/your party starts being strong, you start to realise how fun the game actually is.

it fucking sucks and has no gameplay whatsoever
