They actually had to release the game in 3 discs.

UHH WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS YET SO WE'LL TELL YOU NEXT TIME

>mfw people are eating this shit up
>>
>>319309572
The extra discs were pretty much almost all cutscenes
>>
Except SE is going to charge you full price for every disc this time.

Doesn't change the fact that they need more discs to fit the game.

Ya but back in the day all the discs were released in the same box for one price. None of this lighting returns again Christmas edition shit.

The terrible thing is they did it with the 360 version of FF XIII, which is way too recent to hope that people forgot multi-disc releases were a thing. Goddamn this industry is irredeemable shit, I'm not even sure a crash could save it anymore.

>Implying FF7 wasn't a linear game

The shitposting never ends.
>>
>Pay for entire package upfront, but get the first episode immediately (Think telltale games buisness strategy)
>Game development does not need to be complete to put game on shelves and can continue while consumers play first part
>Consumers can have the product sooner as a result

VS.

>Wait 1-2 years longer for game to complete development

I'd rather not wait, personally. Unless they're charging for each individual episode as full games. In which case, fuck that.
>>
>>319310853
So?

Doesn't change the fact that this game might be too big to release it in one single disc

And you faggots will complain that the game is taking so long, so it makes sense to launch it as an episodic release.
>>
>>319309412
>>319309572
They didn't charge you for the discs separately you fucking mongs

I loved Yuna in that game!
>>
>>319309572
>>319310162
FFVII was on CD, every disc has the same data but with different FMVs. if you force the game to play Disc1 as Disc3, for example, it would play cutscenes from 1 where the Disc 3 scenes should be. This can lead to funny stuff like the final battle backdrop being Cloud jumping on a train or whatever instead of the rippling world core
>>
>>319311294
>>319311301

I've got more than enough games to tide me over, so the wait wouldn't bother me. Then again I don't even care much about the remake.
>>
>>319309814
>implying consoles can read more than dual layer blu rays which are 50gb maximum
>implying people wouldn't bitch about waiting
They can give the fans what they want earlier this way
And they can't cut content or half ass it or they lose sales on the future episodes
>>
>>319309814
>ARE YOU SURE I MEAN A BLURAY DISC IS LIKE 100GB AND 1TB VERSIONS WILL BE OUT BY TH TIME THIS NEARS COMPLETION
I wonder what it's like to be retarded
>>
>patiently wait until all episodes are released, which would probably equal the same (if not less) amount of development time than if they were to make a single game
>buy it all at once
>play

Wow it's like you've got the entire game to play now or something.

No wait, you'll all probably continue buying each episode right on release and then whine about the next episode taking forever to come out like a bunch of impatient fucks.
>>
>>319311524
This, to be quite honest family.
Everything else in this thread is either bullshit or of no consequence.
>>
>>319309872
Cutscenes are still GAME DATA
>>
>>319310919
It's not about discs it's about time
They could have released FFXIII part 1 in 2008, and have people play it sooner
Feedback could have evrn helped them during development
That's what this is about
>>
>>319311301

>Doesn't change the fact that this game might be too big to release in one single disc

But it invalidates their argument that they have to release it in multiple entries.

And I'd much rather wait for a single release than pay out multiple times because it will alllegedly come out faster (as opposed to say giving us a taste and then having later installments run into constant development delays, but when has that ever happened).
>>
>>319311294
You actually think they're going to charge you 60 bucks for every piece?
>>
>multi-disc games are the same as episodic games

Underage at its finest.
>>
>>319312283

I'm way too cynical to believe that. I think it's just so they can charge people multiple times for one remake instead of just once.
>>
>>319312409
If they want to make a profit they'll have to.
>>
>>319312409
I do. They just said each episode will be the equivalent of a full sized game. I expect Square Enix to charge full sized prices for full sized games.
>>
>>319312409

In this fucking industry? I'd believe anything that's bad for the consumers. There was a time when you'd think the idea of making a game, gutting it, selling it for full price, and then selling the parts they cut out for 20 dollars a piece was ludicrous too.
>>
>>319309572

If they sold each disc as a separate release, you might have a point.

If they sold Remake as a single release but it had three discs in the box, that would be an equivalent. As it is, they're basically going to sell you a $40 game (most likely) three times using the same assets and engine in order to milk it further.
>>
>>319311294
>I'd rather not wait

I would rather wait for the full package,
Its like ordering a meal then only reviving it in bits like WHY?!?!?!

>the game's too big to fit on one disc (I seriously doubt it wouldn't fit on a BR disc but maybe I'm wrong)
>this somehow means they have to stagger the release
????
>>
>>319312448
But why? Imagine something simple
>FFXIII part 1 is out
>people rightfully complain about switching paradigms being weird because the characters pose and waste time
>part 2 starts with Snow saying his powers developed and now he can switch between various jobs faster
See what I'm talking about?
>>
>>319312625
>They just said each episode will be the equivalent of a full sized game.
They are SO going to pad this game out with gathering quests.
>>
>>319312780
It's more like going to a restaurant and getting the various dishes one at a time instead of all at once
>>
>>319311524
>>319312210

Are you actually stupid enough to think they'll charge you full price for each episode?

Each episode will probably be like $6 or something like Revelations 2.
>>
>>319312791

I do, but I don't think the feedback would do anything. For one, they could be too far along with the next part that the feedback is useless by the time they get it. For another people bitched about the bad design decisions in FF XIII before it was out and that didn't change anything (though they were definitely too far in to change much for that one).
>>
>>319311294
Alternatively
Don't advertise a game that's unfinished to piss off all of your fans.
If they had made it a full game and waited until the year before to announce it that would have justified a lot of this bullshit and been a lot easier on the fans that wanted a remake for years.
>>
>>319312807
>>319312625

Besides, a "full size game" may be 20 hours of content. FFVII was a 60 hour RPG at least, so "full size" is relative. For me, an RPG should fall in the 40-50 hour range at least. My guess is each part won't be that robust.
>>
>>319312987
If each episode is "a full sized game" then they will be at least $40 each.
>>
>>319312969
If the time between receiving them were hours long and it isn't what you ordered in the first place.
>>
>>319312987

>Behold, look upon my facts

It may be that cheap but most likely, we'll end up paying $120 over three parts.
>>
>a game being released in an episodic format is the same as a game being release on several discs in one package because of memory constraints
No?
>>
>>319312987
Oh oh oh to be this innocent and naive.
Even if the individual episodes won't be at full price, the total will still be more expensive than a regular full priced game.
>>
>>319313048
Exactly that
They released the FFXIII demo in 2009
Imagine if they released the demo in 2007, and part 1 in 2008 with the final part getting released in 2010 maybe even 2011 so they could have expanded and tweaked it more
XIII-2 and LR wouldn't even be like that they would just be FFXIII part x and part y
>>
Anyone ready to spend $300+ on FF7R? Guarantee you each episode will be at least $30, and there will be at least 10 episodes if they want to make sure nothing is forgotten.
>>
>>319312987
>Each episode will probably be like $6 or something like Revelations 2.
>$6
>for something that'll probably cost them somewhere in the double digit millions
>>
>>319311294
How fucking naive are you to think they won't charge for individual episodes? This is Square-Enix we're talking about
>>
>>319313404
>double digit
No
It costed them 40 million dollars in 97 and 100 million dollars in marketing
According to Kitase the cost would have been 3 or 4 times the 65+ millions of xiii if it were a ps3 game and since dev costs have from a 2x to a 3x increase since last gen a worst case estimate puts this remake at a monstrous 1 billion dollar budget marketing included
>>
>>319312283
You are the most gullible faggots I've ever encountered.
>>
>>319309779
ive played it to completion like 50 times since 1997, always on PC, even after losing the discs by pirating, then after the remake was announced i bought it and 100%ed it just so it was listed on my steam profile. i cheesed the weapon fights though

>>
>>319314393
That's worst case scenario
Best case scenario is about half that
Remember how Destiny was said to have a 500 million dollar budget only to say that the 500 million dollars were for a very long dev cycle?
It's probably similar to what SE is doing right now
Only instead of releasing a content poor base game and then expanding on it like Activision they're just releasing fully completed chunks of it at a time
>>
After the Witcher they have no excuse for this bullshit. It too was an action RPG.

W3 was a good 100+ hours of content and fitted on half a disc after compression.

SE just want money.

Except Midgar alone is several times bigger than anything found in Witcher
Midgar is pretty much the capital of the world right?
So let's say it's as big as a pretty big real life capital
Let's go with London because it's so popular here
Greater London has a size of about 1500sq kilometers
That's 150% of Just Cause 2 or 3
And it's all a city
Actually there's more because there's that damned pizza in the sky that covers the city
So that is another 1500sqkm
So Midgar alone woukd be 3000sqkm, that's roughly 3 time jc2 or jc3 and 16 times the map size of all the maps and cities in Witcher 3
And that's Midgar alone
>>
>>319315092

That's probably pretty true, but Vincent and Yuffie will definitely be mandatory characters.
>>
>>319315801

What a shitty argument. When has there ever been a life-sized scaled city in a video game?

They know for a god damn fact that people will eat it up like no tomorrow, so they're doing this for extra money.
>>
>>319317585

He's talking about a fully explorable, life-sized version of Midgar. I don't know why.
>>
Do people actually think Midgard will be a life-size New York City in the game? Holy shit. How fucking delusional can you be. There hasn't been a game in the history of gaming that has made an actual in-game city even 1% the size of a fucking gated community suburb village. It's going to be a hallway just like it was in the original game
