I'm pretty sure there's emu-generals on both /vg/ and /vr/, all the time.

>what system are you emulating
>what game?
Latest one was PS1 and SNES, replaying RE2 and DKC3.

Finished DKC3, stopped in the middle of RE2 in order to allow a total first-timer play it for my amusement.

Most filters are cancerous. I do however quite dig the Pete's OpenGL's Dot-Matrix filter, and the basic bilinear blur.

Right now i'm only emulating PS1
>What Game?
Pic related. I thought i'd try it because i remember playing the demo years ago.

I'm also trying to remember a game from years ago. It was third person, dark scary enviornment you played a monk with a staff or something and fought zombies and other mythical creatures. Can't remember the name...
>How's it going?
So so. It's not a bad game but the emulator is giving me a lot of trouble. Finding a combination of audio and visual drivers that actually work decently is tougher than it seems. PS1 is a bitch to emulate and always has been.

Not nearly as bad as gamecube or ps2 though.
>>
>>319303201

It was a playstation emulator for the dreamcast. Only worked for a handful of games.

No, at first they were for windows. Only later on they also released a bleemcast version. Because they were selling the emu commercially, sony obviously didnt like it, but since the emulator itself was not reverse engineered like others, and was made in a totally different way without even using full ps1's OS, sony couldnt do shit. These guys were bretty gud haxors but also fucking jews.
>>
>>319303316
mednafen is perfect especially for obscure games. the mainline emulators just use shortcut hacks on the popular games and unpopular ones arent as compatible.

Been emulating the PSX primarily these days, with some SNES in between.

The only issue is that PSX fullscreen on a 32" FHD TV does not look so great, and other emulators somehow choked massively. so I'm stuck with using psxfin like OP.

I used retro arch on my tablet few times before. Was better than most anything they had on google play.

Quite a few years ago but even so i tried running wind waker about 2 years ago and i ran into some issues just getting it to look decent and play stable. After i got over those issues though it just crashed super early into the game every time and i couldn't continue so i gave up.

Heh. 5 or so years.

>When can we expect early emulator concepts for the PS4 and Xboner?

10+ years for something serious.

>Which CPU's are best for emulation?

The best Intel CPU you can buy. Unlocked i5s are the preferred choice of most.

>4 core with hyper threading? 8 true cores?

Real cores are always better than HT for everything, there's no reason for emulation to be different.

>Higher single core performance or amount of cores?

Both, priority to single core performance.

Can someone explain to me what the difference between the hardware and software renderers are in PCSX2? Software doesn't seem that much slower but is far more accurate, and in some instances performance is actually better e.g. Drakengard's GUI elements. What exactly is being done in software?

WW needed LLE audio to work, it would hang with HLE audio, the issue has since been fixed IIRC. Next time right click on game in dolphin > wiki to see which special configurations the game needs.
>>

Software rendering relies on the CPU and is generally slower. Hardware rendering relies on the gpu and is typically faster but can be glitchy in some cases.

Does anyone know how to compile PCSX-R?

Framerate of the emulators is not the same thing as the framerate of the game being emulated, so I spent days finding a way to fix this in the year 2015.

I think I've found a way to completely eliminate emulated framedrops in old PSX games, but I need your guys help. Theoretically it'll make games like King's Field, Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid run smooth.

SW rendering in PCSX2 is multithreaded (if you configured it properly) so it gets a massive speed boost that way. It's also been given a lot of time and polish to be a viable alternative to SW rendering, whereas emulators like Dolphin only have SW rendering for debug purposes and are not the least bit interested in making it usable.

Also the HW rendering in PCSX2 is a massive shitfest, so it's not unlikely for it to hit a significant bottleneck and be slower than SW rendering.

I'm well aware that PCSX-R has a CPU hack that enables widescreen for most games. However, many games aren't rendered in the proper 4:3 base resolution that would allow for proper 16:9 conversion that the button performs.
Ape Escape's a prime example. If you use codes to alter the game's data, you can force widescreen on any emulator.

It feels oddly slow. Like, I don't recall characters moving this slowly, but there doesn't appear to be any actual lag either, so I'm confused. Otherwise, its great though. Just beat Skarmory.

I'd only play that if 1) the room could be changed to a dingy basement 2) you could be interrupted and brought out of the game to deal with a rat or something 3) vr

Is there any work around for this yet? Outside of playing at native resolution? Even then I still get pink fog though.
>>
>>319312904
It just occurred to me that the reason why movement feels slow may be because I have the screen resolution higher than normal so the stretched image makes it seem as if its taking longer to move from one location to the next.
>>
>>319312773
That's not PCSX-R. And the black bars are needed because most PSX games run at funky resolutions which aren't 4:3 (or 16:9 for that matter).

ah shit I see Chrono Trigger on the right. can you actually play all the games that are on the screen? also if this is online that would be the coolest shit ever, though idunno how latency would work that out but I wanna see it happen.

>What system are you emulating?
PS1

Breath of Fire 4

Came back to it today actually, after a few months hiatus. Game's as good as ever. I am however having an issue. I'm using pSX and I cannot get analogs to work for the life of me. Maybe it's cause I am not using a PS1 controller (I have a Logitech one), but I suspect it's the emulator's fault.. I could switch to another emu, yeah, but I don't exactly want to lose my saves. Feels bad.

Mednafen is great though. I swear, the only people who hate on it are dumbfucks who can't read FAQs and name 3 bios files correctly.

>>319313478
I thought emulating DS would be harder. I played Red Rescue Team when I was younger, so its partly nostalgia, but also because some music tracks arguably sound better in Red than in Blue.
For example:

Blue:

Started MGS with friends.

One of them told me he feels the game kinda lags in comparison to psn version on PS3. Opened the fps counter, nothing seems to be out of place when those slowdowns happen. Is it a psx thing?
>>
Ape Escape ps1- I finished the game but now have to collect all the monkeys. I am actually finding this a lot of fun as I didn't explore many parts of the levels.
Digital Devil Saga 2- Played 1 last year. Still a bit early in it.
>>
>>319313905

It could be controller latency.
>>
>>319314012
It does have that but I'm talking about the game just slowing down on occasions where there's too much shit going on. I'm thinking its a psx thing since the game was using much of the consoles resources even for its time and the emulator goes for accurate emulation of the console playing the game. I just wondered if anyone noticed it, apart from that its perfectly playable.
>>
>>319313994
oh and the digital devil saga games have some issues where shadows overlap and stuff. Also there are some fps drops but maybe a really good computer can run it smoothly. There's also minor shaking.

it runs well, 100% through the whole game, except one location with huge slowdown that only has 1 shine there so it isn't a big deal.
besides that it's a huge improvement.
>>
>>319314368
The shaking issues is because of your interlacing settings. Are you playing an EU iso?

I tried getting Dolphin to run Nightfire about a month ago, but nothing I did was letting the game play at a decent framerate. MY PC might just be older than everyone else saying "Dolphin is fantastic!" though. I'm not expecting it to be able to run Mario Sunshine.

So I went out and bought nightfire

Hey guys, I want to emulate FFVII in anticipation for the FFVII remake. The problem stems from the fact that it's a 3 disc game. How am I supposed to change discs on an emulator for a game like that and have it still working? I'm thinking of using Mednafen or ePSXe

it's supposed to be like that.
Seriously. The only way to make it boring gray is to lower your color contrast.
>>
>>319320236
You simply change the ISO from the menu, when prompted to do so..
Works fine at least on ePSXe.

have good emulation settings.
>>
>>319320236
Mednafen is shit. Period.
It literally does NOT allow changing discs.
>>
>>319320236
In epsxe you simplypause the game and load a new disc. In mednafenit's a bit trickier.

>To play a game that consists of more than one CD, you will need to create an M3U file(plain-text, ".m3u" extension), and enter the filenames of the CUE/TOC/CCD files, one per line. Load the M3U file with Mednafen instead of the CUE/TOC/CCD files, and use the F6 and F8 keys to switch among the various discs available.

I tried both VBA-M and mGBA, and overall sound quality in the former was horrid, but in mGBA it was pretty good.

use PSX, just change disks when it tells you, it's the easiest shit in the world and it's why I play monster rancher on PSX

I'm fairly sure it lets you save before changing discs? Positive that works for every game...
