What is this strange opinion? It's not the first time I've seen it, but I don't quite understand it. Please explain it.

To date? No.

In the pre-REmake series? Absolutely.
>>
>>319287174
RE4 is a fantastic game, but by no means the best true Resident Evil game.
>>
REmake has become my favorite ever since I come out with an HD remaster cross console. RE2 is close second, but REmake is classic Biohazard gameplay perfected. If REmake2 is anything like REmake. Than maybe I'll agree.
>>
>>319287221
I meant REmake, but I suppose I could have been more clear on that. I don't even consider 4 to be a mainline RE game, title be damned.

i feel CV is more mainline than 4 , guess because the atmosphere and gameplay plays more like the originals than like a sidegame

>If REmake2 is anything like REmake.

This is what scares me. It would be so easy for them to just make a Revelations game, and slap a RE2 skin on it. It's funny, but I'm more worried for the future of the RE2make than I am the FFVII one, even after all that episodic business.
>>
>>319287438
It plays like the other classic REs, and the story is actually relevant. I'm sure you already know this, but it was supposed to be the real RE3, but Sony had some kind of deal worked out with Capcom to where numbered entries could only appear on their console.
>>
>>319287438
CV might as well be a mainline game. RE3.5, before RE4.
>>
>>319287136
nemesis is the best villain from the older games, and playing through a full campaign as Jill was preferable to the two halves of RE2. (but I'm not the poster that you replied to, I prefer REmake)

No, I think REmaster > RE2 > RE4 > RE3 > everything else is my opinion

>RE2 is close second, but REmake is classic Biohazard gameplay perfected.

I respectfully disagree with this. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about the change of pacing in RE2 and 3 just clicks perfectly with me. It just feels like a huge leap forward compared to RE1, and somehow managed to almost completely eliminate the sluggish feeling the first game had without changing the core gameplay experience one bit.

I never had the same feeling I did with 2 and 3 from any classic RE since.

Remake and 4 are objectively the best RE games. 2 is just a carbon copy of 1.
>>
>>319288321
>>319288668
I actually liked 4's gameplay a lot in that you had to take careful aim at enemies and that they had weakpoints

I mean, it wasn't that great since it's either aim at the leg or aim at the head, but I still think it was better than classic RE's "point in the general direction and fire" gameplay.

My dream RE is RE4's "take a stand and aim" with the same tank controls and fixed cameras of 1-3 and CV and a closer design philosophy to REmake

>>
Was the knife ever good for anything before re4?
>>
>>319288889
Because the police department wasn't just another mansion. Because the sewer wasn't just another gardenhouse + underground tunnels. Because the lab wasn't just another lab.

It was a carbon copy of 1 with far more action far less survival and practically made for casuals.

It hasn't really aged much at all except graphically, and no one should be complaining about that. 2 and 3 actually held up quite well compared to RE1, especially when emulated, upscaled to 1080p and running in 60 FPS, not much feels dated about it at all.

Agreed. RE2 and 3 look very nice on the Dreamcast in VGA mode. RE3 especially holds up in the gameplay department thanks to the unique dodge mechanic and gun powder mixing.

Also the fact that it randomly appears and is explicitly obsessed with STARS members is much better than RE2's fucking heli-drop/torpedo'd in Mr. X who's a tyrant that is somehow programmed to track a Chris Redfield's sister and a rookie cop who's literally no one.

3 is my favorite, It's tense all the way through, 1 and 2 have several areas where there's nothing so you're free to run around without a care, in 3 there is literally danger around every corner. The different weapons make it interesting, the difficulty is just right, it has varied areas. There are many spots where its random what enemies will be there it could be zombies, dogs, hunters you never know until you get there and its different every playthrough so you're always on your toes even if its your 100th playthrough.

It introduced quick turn and it has emergency dodge and quick shooting making combat more technical.

Then there's nemesis as just icing on the cake.

While 3 is my favorite as far as Resident evil gameplay, REmake is objectively the best.

Everyone forgets the bullet making mechanic

During your first playthrough you use it to make handgun and shotgun ammo.
When you get used to the game you do shotgun and super shotgun ammo
When you know the game well you pretty much just do magnum ammo

It's a nice compliment to you as a player getting better and having tools to reward that through experience
>>
>>319305592
Like most fans of the series that are old enough to have played the classics when they were out it's generally agreed that 4 was indeed a great game.

But it paved the way to the downfall of the series, there is no denying that. The influx of new players who had 4 as their first were officially the new market playerbase which is what 5 and 6 were made to pander to
>>
>>319306096

Uh, shooting at the legs in the older Resident Evil games still causes the zombies to fall and crawl on the ground. Shooting them in the head also can net you a headshot.

Personally, I think Dead Space did the weak spot system the best out of the 3rd person action/horror games I have played.

I like Nemesis more since it has Nemesis and Jill's sexy ass. I also like REmake since it's one of the best games ever made and you can mod it so that Jill's sexy ass (which is even sexier by default) is completely naked.

Also Regina makes DC1 and DC2 way more enjoyable than Resident Evil 2, plus Birkin is a fucking retarded scrubbie. I'd rather kill a T-Rex and fuck up some raptors.

Physically and literally killing yourself if you didn't save those BOW Gas rounds and explosive arrows.

>Killer maps

Well I'm not sure I want a map to kill me.

Is it the best simply because it was the easiest? The game throws ammo and herbs at you like crazy, and none of the enemies are very threatening. RE3 took everything 2 introduced and improved on it immensely. Gameplay was expanded upon with gunpowder mixing, not having to push a goddamn button to climb stairs, and evade action. Plus Nemesis himself adds tension and a sense of urgency that was much needed.

I sometimes wonder if most of the people who say RE2 is their favorite of the classic games is only because they were able to beat it.
