This was the best quest in Borderlands. Especially the suicide hotline

Basically, turns out it's a trap and you're surrounded by crossbow wielders and guys with spears. Then it's a massive gauntlet after you kill the soldiers, monsters just keep pouring in and you die or not, then after this, if you make it out alive the real game starts. In layman's terms this is a casual filter.

An underwater escort mission that's timed and takes place in a sewer. The escort dies in one hit and swims slower than you do when you go full speed but faster than you do when you're swimming slowly. Halfway through the escort gets his foot caught in a rock and you need to defend him from hoards of enemies while underwater. You routinely need to go up for air, although the escort doesn't because he's a fish, and every time you are low in oxygen there is an annoying beep that repeats itself over and over again. The boss of this segment is a QTE sequence that you don't actually fight.

Take the complete plot from adventure games and turn them into separate quests.

Take him on as you pseudo-squire or
Leave him to starve to death(he doesn't die, just plans his revenge on you) or
Take him to an orphanage, get someone to look after him
Let's say you took him as your squire:

> can give him commands
> you have to teach him various skills
> useful in the long run
> teach him battle tactics
Think, dragon's dogma pawn inclinations but deeper
> repairs your weapons, can take small quests and split the profits with you
> can send him to buy or find resources
> teach him to become smith, makes weapons+armor for you free of charge
Eventually he decides to go out on his own, he can become a blacksmith and you can visit his forge or he can become adventurer, treasure hunter, merc, many more.

So yeah, a massive side quest where you basically create a badass companion. Normies will probably give him to an orphanage

Does the escort at least have really poor pathfinding that requires you to reload saves constantly when he gets stuck on terrain or world objects (e.g. slain baddies)?
After reloading a save, does the escort still keep about half of his AI flags from the previous save, resulting in him rushing halfway across the map while ignoring all commands?
Can the escort get stuck on terrain while performing this rush, forcing you to restart the entire level?
Does the escort's AI tend to prefer walking into your line of fire, standing in the open when faced with enemies, staying put when near explosives or incoming rockets, and running around madly and randomly when you need to touch him to progress the quest?
Does the game engine have OnLive, Origin, Denuvo, Games For Windows Live, and Kinect integration?
Can you be banned permanently from the game and have all your installed games locked and deleted if you are racist, or say "gg ez"?

It will wait at arbitrary intersections until you tell it where to go, even during retries.
If you approach them, they'll stop to face you and repeat a long piece of dialogue in a whiny, annoying voice before moving again.
You can't walk through them, you can't push them out of the way.
Doors during this segment can only fit one person.
You will occasionally have to go through tiny ducts they can't fit through to open doors for them.
They die immediately after they do the thing you needed them for.

Does the NPC sometimes stop in a doorway wanting to be given a direction?
If so, does the NPC + doorway block your view, so you're not sure (at least your first time through) which way to send them, resulting in them most likely walking into a trap and dying the first time you play?
Is it possible for the NPC's long piece of annoying dialogue to overlap itself or stack, if the player moves in and out of the NPC's range, or the NPC moves in and out of the player's range (e.g. while poorly pathfinding)?

They die BEFORE the thing you needed them for.
Your character then breaks the door with force, punches in a random code, or otherwise bypasses what the NPC was meant to do.

Do they even need a thing to do? You are protecting them because they are a VIP/small child/random civilian and because you're the good guy.

It's alright through because you have a big long dramatic cutscene afterwards of your character mourning their death, unskipable too.

None of the alternate pathways are intentionally fatal traps, they're just twice as long as the correct route and have more obstacles.
Not only is the entire section timed, but there are a series of timed checkpoints throughout the escort segment.
The end of the segment is a very difficult platforming section which requires skills that are not explained or seen in any other part of the game.

Im DMing a quest at the moment where the party is unwittingly opening a portal to hell because an angel is telling them that two key temples have been overrun by heretics. They clear out these temples only to discover that those 'heretics' were channeling the seal to keep it closed, and by the time they clear out the second temple they discover they've fucked up, the third seal is in the holy city they started in and by the time they get there the city is getting fucking annihilated by demons and shit. Of course if they use their intuition and shit they will avoid this, I've made a habit of them getting betrayed a lot in the game so they're quite weary of shit. I'm hoping by the time they get to the second temple they realise what's happening, because I'm quite fond of the city that will get destroyed.
