I haven't played the EO remakes but if compared to the originals DT2's maps are certainly more difficult and frustrating. Ascribing difficulty to map size is a very serious error.
Biggest difference is perhaps that DT2's map puzzles span multiple floors at the same time whereas EO's is done by a floor-by-floor basis.
Good example is the Dawa Shrine:

I literally can't bring myself to play my 3DS. The screen is too small, the console doesn't fit my hands (I'm from Scandinavia), even with grips. I tried playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on my friend's 3DSXL but the pixelation and stretching was too obvious from my 3DS.
I guess I've been spoiled by my Vita and phone when it comes to the viewing experience of a handheld.
