Persona 3 is legitimately the edgiest thing i've ever played. P4 is much more light hearted and fun, also the gameplay is much better, the characters are much more likable and the dungeons have at least some variation.

I have no issue with Party control itself. My issue is that it's the only thing P4 players fall on when saying the gameplay is better, when many elements have been removed from the previous installment with nothing to compensate for it along with the changes in the Once more system and removal of individual Physical attack categories that made the game a breeze, even on my blind playthrough on the hardest difficulty.

They changed it in such a way so you wouldn't get caught in death loops, like when you have 3 enemies that no your weakness and will spam, so you end up never getting a turn, while in P4, if you get hit by a weakness twice, you get dizzy and weaknesses won't work until you get back up

Its not like having different physical attacks made P3 that much harder or more fun. Just one more boring thing you needed to keep track of. There's hardly any differences gameplay wise other than that, the fusion spellls which you couldve never even been found by a player, and the party control.

The combat was significantly more interesting as a direct result. It gave P3 a unique twist and made you have to approach battles from a different perspective than other jrpgs. The gameplay alone is deserving of praise in P3, but it manages to do everything else even better too
Persona 4 is so bland by comparison. The plot twists are Scooby Doo tier, it's too easy, and the writing took a nosedive. Nothing in P4 can compare to the Tarot motif of P3. All of the imagery and symbolism are cut out in P4 completely. P4 doesn't have a deeper message, it's just there to make you feel good by having everything in the world cater to your mary sue. On top of all of that, the final boss of P4 is embarrassingly bad, and is made even worse when compared to P3's final boss, one of the best in any video game.

Each Arcana is a stage in life
As you progress in the game, your progressing through each of the Arcana chronologically, until you end up facing death at the end. At that point, you've made connections with all the other people who are the personifications of the Arcana. Having started your journey at the beggining as Fool, you end as The World.
Literally everything in Pesona 3 is tied to the Arcana. The gameplay, the characters, the narrative, and it's a brilliant motif

persona 3's themes had nothing to do with the tarot. you could strip out all the allusions and imagery taken from the rider-waite deck and replace them with thoth cards, gnostic images, or any appropriately mystic-seeming thing, and the actual themes of the work, death, loss, acceptance, would be unchanged.
i'm not saying they were wrong to use tarot, it's perfect since it's all set up to say whatever you want it to say, but to say that turn of the century english hermeticism is actually significant to the game is flat wrong. tarot is a stylistic device used to give the game an overarching aesthetic.
p4's equivalent is its use of the television to show the inner life of the mind, reversing its role as amplifying the selected and outward projected image. in the same way as above, the game is not about television, it's an aesthetic device

I dont remember any story reason indicating a motif that involved knowledge and wisdom that the card represents. The motif in the bosses was there merely to lead up to Nyx and wasn't used in any other significant way.
