It looks fine, plays just as well.
The only thing I could see it could use are gameplay tweaks to balance things and bug fixes.
And those could be done in a port a la War of the Lions.

FFT's story was what makes it so much better, it was much more mature than the gameboy series.
Besides the much better story, the gameplay itself is a lot more challenging until you get extremely powerful - which is still possible and Advance but not to the same degree. FFT really lets you feel like a god. The skill learning system isn't as annoying and permadeath makes things a bit more interesting.

The translation was done by the same guy who did FF12's translation and wanted to style the dialogue in be the same vein.
The guy does a good job but he put a little too much of his own "artistic flare" on WOTL translation and many fans of the original disliked it.

Emulate it on ps1, the WOTL is an excellent remake all aside from the dialogue, save yourself the cringe and just play the ps1 version.
