Keep calm and basically do shit at random. Just make sure to already have your second job class before you start messing about. There's no real wrong way to grind, just slower and faster, so feel free to explore and see all the weird quests that got added to the game over time and now feel bizarre and pointless. Like the one with the train in Taiwan.

Every class is good except Jett. Some are more or less good than others, but there's nothing that will get outright turned down. Explorers tend to start slower and less flashy than other classes, but they're extremely solid, especially once you hit 3rd job and beyond.

Showa town sells the milks which teleport you to mushroom shrine, so you can go to kanna/hayato place from the dimensional gate, use one, exit to henesys, go to six path cross way, pantheon, then any town in the game in under a minute.
