Why doesn't Nintendo do remakes on this level anymore?
>>
Most of the quality control died, or left.
>>
Gotb it at Game stop last weekend. It's pretty good, didn't play the original all that much
>>
They realized people bough everything so they started removing more and more over time, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash is their latest attempt to gauge how much they can remove while still selling.
>>
Is 64 DS worse than the original?
>>
>>318798464
Only in the controls.
>>
>>318797961
You mean like WW HD for example which was a fantastic remake?
>>
>>318798764
no....
>>
>>318798705
>only in the thing that matters the most
Fuck off OP, you've been making this thread for weeks now.
>>
>>318798705
That's a really important part.
>>
>>318798764
TWWHD was barely even a remake. It used all the same models. It's more of a revision
>>
>>318798464

neutered the atmosphere and by that I mean the camera angles

the controls are atrocious definitely, not just the d-pad but the changes in physics
>>
>>318798705
Playing it on the 3ds gives it an analog stick atleast
>>
I reckon were gonna get a proper sequel to sunshine at some point, its strange how it hasn't gotten a re-release after all these years
>>
>>318798829
OP here, wasn't me.
>>
>>318797961

Because it's hard and giving M2 money is expensive.

The only people interested in stuff like that anymore is SEGA, and M2 is getting tons of work from them.

Look up M2's gigadrive and tell me M2 and SEGA aren't the most based companies around.
>>
>>318797961

don't need to, almost every game they release is a remake
>>
>>318798829
>>318798924
I'm not the OP, anyways because the original DS doesn't have a joystick, the movement controls are mapped to the dpad so it's feels weird to use. Your only recourse is to play it on the 3DS or play the game in an emulator.

Because it's a hell of a lot more work to build/recreate from an existing game (especially one as old as Mario 64, where the original tools if they have them, likely don't work on modern machines) and remaining faithful than it is to do a quick and dirty port.
>>
>>318798964
eah but only a digital emulation either way.
I wish they had remade it on 3DS instead, though it would have fallen into the current Nintendo era and as a result would be fucking horrible.
>>
>>318799109
M2 has been consistently great through history
But Sega? Hell no. They are only supporting these ports because they are cheap to make.

>>318798764
it was a poor port if that
in fact every remake and port of a Zelda game has been shit excluding Links Awakening
I mean shit how do you remove the tingle tuner for a console with a screen built into the controller?
>>
>>318798764
>Just bloom my shit up
>Add a new item to get you through the shitfest of a game faster
>remove tingle item despite the gamepad being literally perfect for it
>Cut out a quest
WWHD was a shit remake. Still a better job than TPHD though. At least when WWHD was announced the difference was obvious right away
>>
>>318798705
>>318798943
Replaying the N64 version I can really tell that the DS version simplified movement, probably to make it easier since there's no stick. On the DS you can turn on a dime and there's not nearly as much momentum.
>>
>Super Mario 64 DS
>First couple hours of the game is exclusively Yoshi
>>
>>318799001
surprisingly, everybody hates sunshine. which blew my mind, i honestly thought it was one of the best mario games at the time.

Even nintendo is acting like it didnt exist.

then again what do i know, i didnt play any 2d mario until i found out emulators were a thing. Sunshine was of my first marios and the 64 remake was my first experience with mario 64
>>
>>318797961
You mean remakes that completely fuck the controls making it unplayable?
>>
>>318797961
even after having played it years ago, I can't say whether I would have preferred it to have Luigi, Yoshi and Wario or if it would have been better just to stick with Mario.

It's a great remake, but it's hard for me to decide which one would've been better. The change was good, I guess.
>>
>>318797961
They should've waited for the 3DS for this shit. Never played it but I imagine it controlled terribly with the touch screen.

And really, SM64DS? Not Zero Mission, THE standard for remakes across video games?
>>
>>318798464

No. People who have a problem with the controls are fat slobs who can't put their finger on the DS without covering it.
>>
>>318799180
>Your only recourse is to play it on the 3DS
Still mapped to 8 directions retard
>>
>>318799472
>surprisingly, everybody hates sunshine. which blew my mind, i honestly thought it was one of the best mario games at the time.
Sunshine's major downfall is the lack of diversity in shine collecting when half of the game revolves around blue coins and rehashed missions

texturing in the game is real nice, specially compared to the original mario 64

>Not Zero Mission, THE standard for remakes across video games?
Sorry that's not Super Star Ultra
>>
>>318799542
The other characters are neat at first, but eventually they just become annoying since you need to keep changing them for specific stars. Worst was when you had to be Wario since he's slow as balls.
>>
>>318797961
I appreciate the effort put in, but this remake is kinda lame. The new characters don't really add anything meaningful.

Kirby Super Star Ultra is an amazing remake, though. As is Metroid Zero Mission and Pokemon HeartGold.

>tfw the Ocarina of Time remake got wasted on a shitty handheld version

>tfw we will never get a full HD Ocarina of Time remake

It would have actually saved the Wii U.
>>
>>318800271
With how ugly both OoT and MM came out I'm glad they didn't actually put the effort into doing a real remake
>>
>>318799360

>cheap to make

Have you been reading the dev blogs?

They had to go through 2000 individual layers for gunstar heroes, for one level alone. And do animation for them. They've been unbelievably expensive. That's why nintendo abandoned the project.
>>
>>318800535
>all that work
>and we'll still never get physical releases of the 3d classics
this saddens me

Well at least you have Wind Waker remake...oh wait.
>>
>>318797961
That was, sincerely, the best remake ever made for a videogame. I'm still amazed they manage to do this at the genesis of the Nintendo Dual Screen (commonly known as Nintendo DS)

I had so much fun playing this, the 4 characters were a big plus for the already biblical game

Seriously we are now in the era of remakes, and none of them reach the level of perfection from Super Mario 64 DS

Super Mario 64 was already considered as one of the best games of all time ; and the remake can be considered as one of the best (if not the best, that's my opinion) remakes of all time

That's the reason Nintendo is still alive competing with Sony and Microsoft: they are truly the masters of video game art
>>
>>318800795

They're starting to consider it, based on the fact that the last batch did pretty well. Or at least selling special editions in the U.S.
>>
>>318800271
>>318800271
You know what, although I liked OoT3D, I do lament that we're not ever going to get a full, proper, completely overhauled remake of the game.
>>
>>318801089
would be perfect if they release both in a dual pack I'd jump on that shit right now
>>
>>318801509

Both?

They've put out like....12 of those fucking things now.
>>
>>318799387
My memory sucks, anon. What quest was cut from WWHD?
>>
>>318801645
I was talking specifically the 3DS releases
>>
>>318799249
I don't know why, but I was expecting some hot glue.
>>
>>318800934
I've never played SM64DS but I doubt it's better than REmake or Zero Mission.
>>
>>318801761

Yeah, same here. They put out 16

By comparison, Nintendo put out 6, with the most complex one having something like 8 layers of detail.
>>
I can't play Mario games with out thinking about Peach getting fucked by the villains. Thanks Playshapes.
>>
>>318799781
It's a shame there's no good texture filter though.
>>
>>318798464
*is it as good as the original?
>>
>>318801932
you're thinking the separate games I was talking about the collections, M2 released 2 mega drive collections of their 3dmakes
>>
>>318801914
I played both, Zero Mission is also biblical of course

But I personally preferred 64 DS
>>
I loved mario 64 ds on the ds phat
good times
>>
>>318799472
I don't think anyone hates sunshine, it just isn't half as good as 64 or Galaxy.
>>
>>318802268

Ohhh. My bad anon.
>>
>Only 8 directions of movement in a game that was not designed around it.
Every time I replay it, this almost kills it for me.
>>
>That fourth door in the character selection room which was unmarked and never opened.
One day I'll discover it's secrets.
>>
>>318797961
I played the fucking Jesus out of this game back in highschool. God damn such a fine remake.
I just couldn't believe how a game I was used to playing on a big console was able to fit in such a small thing.
>>
>>318803756
A power star.
