Would this be a good game to get into ateliers?
>>
>is the second game in a trilogy a good starting point
>>
Start with Ayesha 1st if you want to start with the dusk series otherwise go with rorona plus both are already out and pretty cheap.
>>
>>318770354
No since that's a sequel to Atelier Ayesha.
>>
>>318770354
I started with E&L and thought it was comfy as fuck. You should start with Ayesha though
>>
>>318770682

Eh, it's just that maybe I thought I could play as Logy to help ease myself into the series since I don't want to play as a girl with frilly clothes.
>>
>>318770847
>since I don't want to play as a girl with frilly clothes
Then why the shit are you even interested in Atelier?
>>
>>318770916
I'm curious about the crafting and I'm sort of hungry for a new jrpg series to try out.
>>
>>318770847
There are male characters in Ayesha too.
>>
>>318771049
Try the arland series of you want to have a more crafting focus game.

The Dusk series slowly shifts more into combat.

t︂b︂︂h I liked Logy a lot and i wish Gust would do male MCs more like in MK. Though Vayne was a bit boring but Raze was cool.
>>
>>318771132
Really? Not OP, but I'm in the same boat. The alchemy seems swell but I'm a bit put off but /u/ shit.
>>
>>318771576
Only Totori is /u/ cause she's a fucking slut
>>
>>318771837
This is what I mean. I want to craft things and shit but the whole "lol cute yuri" thing puts. I was hoping playing as a dude would help that? Does it?
>>
>>318771576
>>318771957
There's no yuri except people wishing it was. You play as a cute girl but there are always both male and female party members. Actually Ayesha only has two if I remember correctly so it's not a lot. But for exemple in Rorona there are 4 males and in Totori there are 3.
>>
It's a great start. Logy gets you over the transition to the Atelier formula by actually being able to use physical attacks early on. Eventually you learn just how much more power Escha's storybook has and can then move on to the later titles.

Starting in the middle of Dusk isn't too bad. You miss a couple references to events from the previous game that make you go "ah-ha!" when you see it in Ayesha. The fact that Nio is there only means the true ending is canon and does not invalidate the entire journey to save her.

There really isn't any yuri in them besides some undertones. Even then it's not really yuri. I guess E&L would be perfect for you cause there's a good balance of male and female characters and literally no /u/. Also logy is a cool guy.

But like >>318771225 said, it's more on the combat. But I liked it anyway.
>>
>>318772435
Thanks. I'll also get to Ayesha if I E&L and once I get a bigger memory card.

Arland has a lot of /u/ undertones.
Rorona's female master is a lolicon
Rorona and Corey
Totori and Mimi (much more obvious)

I should really get around to Meruru to see the examples there

On the other hand in Dusk it's much older people so the women are all complaining they can't find guys or aren't seen as a woman and in one case a shop clerk wants to know more about Keith. I think the absolute worst is subtext between the Shallies or green Shallie and Wilbell

Final Fantasy 7

The Main character of FF7 is muscular, male, straight out of the military, has tons of personality, and gets the job done

let's mosey
>>
>girls being friends is automatically yuri

It really goes both ways since you can also get endings with the male party members that imply relationships there as well. They said in an interview that the Arland trilogy was originally planned to end with Rorona and Sterk becoming an official thing but they decided against that.

But everything is superficial at best. There's no canon couples or pairing or anything, though Escha and Logy are shipped really hard in the game and anime.

>>
>>318774143
Yes. There are characters from Rorona returning and part of the fun would've been to meet them before, but it doesn't spoil anything nor is it required. It's in the same world but the stories are actually unrelated.

They just don't want Sterk to be happy ever. It would have been really cute though if they actually did become a couple.

My favorite ending in Totori was the Gino one because Rorona and Sterk basically stalk Totori and Gino as they do things because they're their respective mentors.

If they weren't Nomura-designed characters FFXV looks like 4 dudes broing it up but unfortunately, Nomura-designed characters. Whatever, if you want a manly Japanese game then just play Yakuza.
>>
>>318771225
But relaxing the calendar 'gameplay' is actually far more accommodating to people who want to do a lot of crafting. Older games punished you for not minimizing crafting and doing everything as efficiently as possible.
>>
>>318777216
Ironically I'd say that the FFXV lads look the least Nomura of any recent Nomura character. They look kinda gay but not Gackt style "That isn't a girl?" level.

That said, I wish the love interest wasn't flat as a board. Why does modern Square hate titties?

>>318779461
Mana Khemia is pretty good. I wouldn't recommend Iris to anyone, though. I almost never tried the rest of the series due to how thoroughly mediocre it was.

>>318780638
It varies a bit by entry. In general, though, everything is menu/turn based and there is a strong emphasis on crafting and resource management. Some of the games have quite good combat, others are fairly unimpressive in that regard. A few entries also focus a bit on exploration.

>>318780934
It picks up slightly at the very end.

I finished it, but I wasn't too impressed with E&L. It lacks the freedom of the previous entries and the pacing is terrible due to how the time management mechanic was mishandled.
>>
How different is thus game from Totori? I didn't like the time mechanics in Totori
>>
>>318782539
They have stories, but they're more like excuses to wander around. E&L and Shallie pay a little more regular attention to the story than the other ps3 games. The MK games on ps2 are pretty story focused.
>>
>>318782607

>picks up at the end

I'm glad I know that now i really thought some ultimate evil was gonna come out of that lost technology and i was gonna have to fight them to save the world or something like that. Sort of a shame because I liked the mixing stuff in it but it wasn't enough fun for me to just want to play for the gameplay alone.

>>318782807
You don't play as a cute girl in the mk ones though do you I remember trying one of them a wihle back but I don't really remember how I felt about it
>>
>>318782430
>>318782539
I think the narrative suffers a bit because the protagonists don't really have a goal for most of the game. They're just working a job.

It's rare for the series to be very plot-focused, but at least in the others your actions are kind of tied into the plot, since you're actively trying to achieve something rather than just meeting some quota each month.
>>
>>318770354
Why the helll ldoes the site say FOR PS3
>>
>>318782671
The time limits are extremely forgiving, to the point that if you don't like experimenting or revisiting places you'll actually consider using the sleep option. The more recent two games do away with the fixed calendar altogether.
>>
>>318775257
They give Ayesha a whole new design but Logy is stuck in his palette swap. Isn't it sad?
>>
>>318780638
There's 2 parts, based on what I played (Arland and Dusk games).
First is standard time based RPG combat where characters take turns according to their speed stats. And outside of battles is exploration and actually being a merchant.

Second part is alchemy. You create items and you sell them, wholesale them, give to others who need them.

I like it because of scheduling. Testing myself on when I can complete an objective. I guess Atelier games are games where you can reward yourself.
>>
>>318782965
The Atelier games tend to be focused on the protagonists striving to achieve personal goals rather than going on a grand journey to save the world. I actually appreciate that, but I don't think it's handled terribly well in E&L.
>>
>>318783075
Logy was already perfect. He might have a different type of jeans on though.
>>
was shallie any good? E&L disappointed me so much i didn't even bother with shallie
>>
>>318773068
Shadow Hearts 2
>>
>>318783387
It's different. The lack of time limits means the way you power yourself up doesn't follow the same pattern and you can acquire good modifiers earlier if you know how to get them. The story focus is stronger as well, though some people weren't thrilled with the relative lack of resolution to the Dusk story. Plus version might address that. I liked the changes to the combat system, but others thought it was too spammy or something. Seems like an odd criticism for a series where combat traditionally has involved repeating the same tiny list of moves over and over and spamming items on bosses.
>>
>>318783387
I'm in the same boat. I've been hesitant to give the series another chance after E&L.

>>318783535

Use bombs. good quality ice bombs work well for breaking rocks.

There's a recipe book somewhere that teaches you how to craft them. When you do the bingo, go for the stuff that unlocks books. The shopkeepers also sell the books if you missed out on them. Bounties are worth doing for popularity, which affects the endings you can pick at the end. The small change is useful from them. Also, Kudelia pays really good money for bounties.

The story and continuity in these games are a joke.

If you play them for the story you're a fucking retard.
These are games that are about 2 things; the gameplay and "comfy" feeling (tied to the characters and world).

Escha & Logy is hands down the best entry for newcomers to jump in for countless reasons.

I'm quite fond of the first two games, at least.

The first one is a little rough around the edges, but it's carried by the plot, characters, and setting.

The second one improved on nearly everything, though the tone is a little different. It's a direct sequel, so I would start with the first one.

SH3 has the best combat in the series by a small margin, but is otherwise inferior to the other two. It's also pretty loosely connected plot-wise; SH2 brought the story to a conclusion.

The combat in all three games is turn-based, but it has a timing gimmick similar to Legend of Dragoon.
>>

>>318787036
I mean like in Totori, where it takes a fuckton of days travel and even gather stuff for synthesis I feels like the game is pushing me does meruru tone that down a bit?
>>
>>318788224
If you plan things out there's plenty of time to do anything.

It's on same par with Totori with the time management, but as long as you have a grasp how things work it's not an issue.
>>

>>318786830

Meruru's calendar system is a lot looser in terms of advancing plot and doing main tasks but you have much more to do in general so the game always keeps you trying to do as much as possible.

There are no massive timesinks like Totori's boat that can fuck you up.
>>

Totori is the most 'plotty' of the Arland trilogy by far and they kinda fucked up with how the plot was advanced.

I managed to get the boat done but couldn't defeat the dragon thing
>>
How much do i miss out if i play the PS3 versions instead of the Vita versions?
>>
>>318790135
Not much

You can look up all the events and outfits you miss on youtube
>>
>>318790051
That water dragon was easy. Were you underleveled with low level gear?
>>
>>318784942
The time management if you can call it that in E&L is trash.

Only 1 boss in the game warranted spending any length of time on alchemy and he was DLC.

And picking Logy as a protagonist changes jack shit except some inner dialogue.
>>
>>318790135
Some extra dungeons and DLC that wasn't included in the original, except for Rorona +.

>calling sophie designs bad when sophie and corneria exist
>>
>>318790135

The Vita ports tend to have things that were DLC in the original (costumes, extra characters) already bundled with the game so you save more money if you care about things like that.

If you have a Vita and PS3 there's really no reason not to get the Plus versions.
>>
>>318790375

Finished the main plot and all the end game bosses with over a year left.

The big mistake was letting humonculi craft and gather the best synth items in the game.

Having a plentiful supply of x2 all element items made crafting powerful items easy as fuck.
>>
>>318790350
I never really paid attention to the traits of my gear or levels of it, I only cared about the item itself and not the quality because that was how I played in Rorona.
>>
>>318790628
Did you not play post game for rorona? Or was it the vanilla version?
>>

>If you have a Vita and PS3 there's really no reason not to get the Plus versions.
But then i have to get like
2 16GB SD cards
>>
Can any weebs tell me if the ps4 version of Sophie runs at 60 fps and that there's a demo in the Japanese psn?
>>
>>318790628

Always worth spending lots of time crafting good attributes into gear and accessories.

Saves time fighting enemies, means you have to return to town less because of low MP/items and prevents bosses being a brick wall.
>>
>>318791113
Or spend a little more and get a 64gb.
>>
>>318790931
I played post game but not much because by then I had bought Totori and wanted to play that.
>>
>>318791268
They dont sell them here

>>318791523
Online?
>>
>>318791649
I don't have internett
>>
>>318791523
I have 2 16 GB cards and 1 32 GB card

It's much easier just importing a 64 GB

What sort of third world shithole do live in were you don't have access to your own internet?

Do I get to romance Logy in Sophie?

This series isn't for you. I don't care if I'm being baited. Go the fuck away.

Ignore the shitposters and listen so someone who actually played the games to death.

Like >>318784942 mentioned, the continuation is a joke. Especially in the Dusk trilogy.
I'd go even as far and say it's about as connected as the Pokemon games. You might recognize a few characters and places, but they're completely disconnected to their respective prequels.

Every entry comes with a new alchemist (or two in this case). The story is always told from their perspective. So even if you miss a reference, you won't be completely out of the loop.

The Dusk games are much more story focused, but still are rather self contained.
The plus version will come with some characters from Ayesha, which had a very open true ending. There will most likely be a small story event from Ayesha in form of subevents, but nothing you would really miss out on.

In terms of gameplay, it's probably the easiest of all Atelier games. In other entires in the series, you need to spend your first playthrough crafting perfect items and gear in order to tackle on the harder challenges and clear the true ending. In E&L, you have a shitload of leeway. Even without really knowing what you're doing, you have a very good chance of tackling on the stronger optional boss monsters. a NG+ would make this a breeze.

The alchemy system in the Dusk games is also much simpler than in the Arland trilogy. You probably won't be as confused as in Ayesha, since the reworked the alchemy system completely. Instead of worrying about having the right mats at hand and archieving a high enough quality to make a bomb useful, you can simply play around with some different traits and effects (something you can't do in Ayesha until later in the game and simply impossible in Arland without knowing what you do).

The combat is also much more like a traditional RPG. You are way less dependant on items than in other entries.

You probably won't get the true atelier feel out of it. But it definitely is a great stepping stone into the series.

In the end, don't get fooled by shitposters. /v/ used to love Atelier games a few years back, until Gust viraled for whatever reason. All the influx of other internet shitholes doesn't help.
>>
>>318793503
I felt that the Arland games had more story than Dusk games, being schedule based and all with timed events. To each his own.
>>
>>318793905
Arland had much more character events, which had a very fleshed out progression.

You see less of the that in Dusk, but much more worldbuilding.

One might argue that Totori isn't true for Totori, but this is a special game in the series anyway.

>Totori isn't true for Totori
What? Is it totally with engrish?
>>
>>318794939
sorry, kinda multitasking at the moment. and yes, engrish.

Totori is a special game. It's the only Arland entry with a story lined through the entire game.
