I should have always tried this genre. I feel like I've had taste of it in a game like Torchlight 1, where you just keep going deeper and deeper into a dungeon. I know it's basically just a number going higher and higher, but that feeling of being way the fuck away from the outside world feels good to me for some reason. I also get it a bit from Elder Scrolls when I"m deep in, even though it's just copypasta dungeons.

1 is more linear. You go from level to level while in 2 is open world. In 2 you have a hub where you can teleport back to if you manage to find other portals. 2 has more puzzles, and actual boss fights. The gameplay itself is identical, 2 might have more classes but other than that it's the same.
I'd say play the first game first because then you will appreciate the changes in 2 alot more. Legend of Grimrock 2 is a spiritual successor done right. It's the best dungeon crawler I've ever played since Wizardry 8.

can't compare them to torchlight or elder scrolls it's completely different it's half rpg half puzzle game
the first grimrock is almost completely linear in a single dungeon and gives you far less choices for charcter development if you get stuck on a puzzle you stay stuck till you solve it.
2 on the other hand is way more open more variety with enviroments character building (although it's still pretty simple) i wouldnt call it open world but you can tackle whatever area in any order you want you can even finish the game without visiting every area it's also longer probaly 25-30 hours whereas i beat 1 in maybe 8 or 9

To be honest, I'd play these if they're actually good dungeon crawlers. I don't mind the moe cute girls stuff, actually a bit of a bonus, just so long as they don't rely on cute girls to sellt he games rather than good dungeon crawling mechanics
That said, I don't own a Vita so I don't feel so enticed to buy one for these games. Might give them a go if they get ported to PC some day, which from the looks of things looks plausible.

Diablo+Titan Quest have served me pretty well. Torchlight too.

Pretty alright game, letting you customize a character's appearance and seeing how silly some equipment looks on them is rather novel.
Think it was remade into Operation Abyss? Not really interested in the Vita.

Are there any other games like these? I used to spend hours upon hours playing Daggerfall just plundering randomly generated dungeons, and ifSkyrimhad randomly generated dungeons I'd probably play it constantly.

Wouldn't really call BoI or Ziggurat dungeon crawlers, exactly, but Nuclear Throne is a really good game that's roughly on-par with Isaac. Less item variety but way better action.
