I like them. They want to purify the world and I like that. I wish the Brotherhood of Steel existed in real life.
It's like Bethesda tried to understand what the Brotherhood is actually meant to be but fucked up again and went to the other extreme.
A lot of enjoyable if flat characters though.
I fucking hate how companions that aren't Danse, Strong (who is constantly complaining anyway) and Curie whine incessantly if you join them though.

The Enclave were far more extremist. The Brotherhood of Steel tolerates your average ghoul for example, the Enclave does not. Also, the idea of "mutants" in the eyes of the Enclave means pretty much everyone that wasn't in a vault or in a bunker or whatever.

I found that strange too.
I was almost named the successor to the Institute, but then this main quest appears where you have to either Vertibird airdrop or Molecular Relay into Mass Fusion which instantly and inexplicably makes you an enemy of either the BoS or Institute. A similar thing happened earlier that somehow magically made me the enemy of the Railroad despite being their third-in-command with no way of knowing I'd betrayed them.
Like, why can't I take control of the Institute and hand it over to the Brotherhood? Maxson even says "there's plenty of synths left out there to destroy", opening the floodgates to an infinite supply of shitty radiant engine quests. Why would he prefer to nuke everything and leave stragglers than to possess the infrastructure which created synths in the first place?
The extent to which one can "role-play" in this game is appalling for a AAA RPG; I have virtually no agency as a character in the story, not helping which is the shoehorned plot point of my mysteriously black-skinned child being kidnapped- endlessly driven home by all the dialogue choices consisting of "muh shaun".
The only definitive satisfaction I got from the plot was powerfisting the hypocritical faction leaders' heads in with my chemed up 28 STR.

They're secretly distributing synths all over the place, basically doing the institute's job for them. The synths can say all they want about not being under the institute's control, but they'll never know. At any time an institute agent could flip a switch in them and have them detonate a nuke in their abdomen, or just start killing people.
Also you could never be sure you got the whole institute by blowing up the one you find in the final brotherhood quest. That could just be one of many institutes that all have fathers who communicate. I mean, they have teleportation, they could be anywhere.

The way I see it, Maxon is so focused on the Institute not because of the Brotherhood, but because he wants to one up Elder Lyons and affirm himself. If you listen around on the Pryden, tons of people still talk about how Lyons stopped the Enclave. I'm sure that pissed Maxon off every time he hears it. By beating the Institute, Maxon gets that big win like those before and and solidifies his leadership.

If you payed attention to the game at all, you know that some smaller chapters have begun to deify Maxson. He's viewed as a Messiah by the Brotherhood, in a way.
The paladins that spawn in the wasteland feel weak and usually don't do much unless they have a gatling laser and a few companions.
Power armored paladins should be on the same level as a deathclaw when it comes to rarity and strength, the fact that you find so many of their dead bodies after a grapple with some raiders and a super mutant really takes away from the entire illusion of being the strongest armor and the unchallenged leaders of the wasteland.
Look at this image from FO3, those raiders are taking a picture beside that dead paladin like it were a hog tied and hung up for a weighing, the idea of killing a paladin should elicit that kind of feeling, a feeling of "Holy shit we're still alive" Instead you find the entire patrol of BoS power armor and vertibird wreckage outside a super mutant hangout all ragdolled and waiting for looting.

Liberty Prime was great, no question, other than that I would have wished for some twist in their storyline. The Danse plot was fucking weak and hamfisted and other than that you just go on a bunch of fetchquests and eventually just nuke the Institute while your son watches and then it's over.
