"...Ahh, Sweet Child of Kos. Returned to the ocean."

What did he man by this?
>>
>>318517082
Kos was a fish god and people from the village fished him and thus shit happened.
The ocean is where kos and her children belong.
>>
>>318517082
I can't beat this asshole.
>>
>>318518058
You can go on the water if that might help
>>
Does having high insight bring visual changes in the dlc areas?
>>
>>318518251
I did and almost beat him but he always kills me with the placenta balls when I reach his last bit of health.
>>
>>318518251
Why do people keep saying to fight him on the water? What's it do?
>>
So Kos was the great one under the lake, not an ayylmao one? I'm getting it right here?
>>
>>318518403
Hos lightning attack is less likely to hit you n
>>
>>318518403
it's flat, no uphill/downhill nonsense and you don't get caught on stuff like you can on the beach.
>>
>>318518660

Kos is the carcass that gives birth to that motherfucker
>>
>>318518906
Well yes, but that's not the point. tThe runes in the main game always pointed to their being a great one below the water as well as in in space, so can we now say with certainty that Kos and it's ilk are the ones from the lake?
>>
>>318519452
Kos is the one under the lake
Moon presence (and probably countless others) in space
Oedon is air/sound itself
that's how I see it
>>
>>318517082
he is one of the old gods children that life in ocean. He accidentally got swept to the shore which started to mess with things on the main land (since he is the son of a god and all)

He wasn´t really a bad guy. Just a confused kid that got lost.
>>
>>318519452
Ya pretty much.

Kos is from the water. Moon Presence is from space. Both help establish another plain in which people are trapped. (Hunters Nightmare and the Hunters Dream)
>>
>>318519452

Kos might be the link between Yharnam realm and ayy lmao realm since it's the one giving people brain eyes according to Mycolash
>>
>>318519452
Ebrietas is the one from the Cosmos, right?
>>
>>318519452
You should check on what the Astral Clock hands land on when it opens to the Fishing Hamlet
>>
>>318518660

Kos can still be an ayylmao.

What triggers my autism is the fact that you ascend a tower and exit the clock at ground level.

Also can anyone explain if the dlc completely takes place on the nightmare?

If so, what is the relation between the fishing hamlet and surroundings with the "real" version of the map in Bloodborne?

Is there any strategy to chalice dungeons? I want to fight the Phthumeran Queen. I've no idea what to do.
>>
>>318517082
this game makes no sense. its like when some random faggot writes nonsensical potery for shits and giggles and then academics pick it apart for deep meanings where there are actualy none.
>>
>>318519898

Strategy for every single boss in the game:
Dodge the attacks
Hit the boss until its dead
>>
>>318520038
>I don't understand something, so it must be stupid and pretentious!
don't breed
>>
>>318520143

I mean is there strategy in making a dungeon or is it random? How do I access the boss I want?
>>
>>318519795
Look into the sea in fishing hamlet. You'll see the nightmare city below you, deep underwater. You retain your elevation. It's a nightmare, weird shit happens
>>
>>318518058
backstab fishing with augur of ebrietas.
the only way on higher ng's. boss is bullshit
>>
>>318519795
Well the Fishing Hamlet is above the Hunter's Nightmare as we can see when the weird shell guy falls from the sky. The entire opening area and Maria's clocktower and Research Facility are there to stop people from finding it.

The entire world is the nightmare which are parts of Yarnham that have dragged into itand warped and distorted like we see in the first area.

The Research lab and the Fishing Hamlet are actual parts of Yarnham that were ripped directly into the Nightmare. Kinda like how the Mensis facility is inside Micolash's nightmare dimension.

The Hamlet was most likely near Byrgenwerth in the real world.
>>
>>318519795

I thought the old ones were incapable of having children. That means Kos might be something else since it birthed offspring.

Or maybe it's just Oedon and Moon presence that need to impregnate women
>>
>>318520038

This, so fucking much. I mean, sure, all those things they have in the game sound like damn cool concepts. But there's nothing behind it. It's cool-sounding words with no content to support the idea. And put it all together and nothing makes any sense at all.
>>
>>318519898
Just google a Chalice dungeon guide or check bbg in /vg/.

There's something like 10 or 11 mandatory dungeons you need to do to access the right materials and chalices.
>>
>>318520194

The first layouts are always fixed. When you get the lower chalices you can mix certain items to randomize and get better drops and increased difficulty
>>
>>318520309
No it's just the inverse.

Every Great One loses its child. But the Orphan lost its mother.
>>
>>318520339
If you read all the items the game's plot is explained. Yes it's vague and stupid and you have to think but its there.
>>
>>318520520

Yeah.
There's blood from aliens and that turns everybody into werewolves. There's hunters that hunt things and Gherman really fucking doesn't want you to stay.
>>
>>318520194
The pthumerian queen is the final boss of pthumeru ihyll chalice dungeon, you need living strings to unlock it
>>
Anyone know a good Bloodletter build? Also is there any way at all to get it before the fishing hamlet?
>>
>>318519685
>>318519603
That's what I was figuring yeah, glad i'm not being dumb.
>>318519783
Huh? Okay, I will. Can't say I really paid any attention but I will next time.
>>
>>318520643
Skill and Bloodtinge.
>>
>>318520038
Ever read Finnegan's Wake? There actually is something to be said for the positive side of your argument (which is completely valid) in that writing something so open to interpretation is a skill in and of itself
>>
Is it official now?

Is Maria Gerhman's waifu?
>>
>>318518058
Learn the parry timings for the first form
Hope and pray for the second form. Loch shield also helps with blocking his lightning attack and some of his projectiles.
I did it solo and it took forever, but it's doable
>>
>>318519795
You are always in the Nightmare for the DLC so it all is abit crazy. It is like the last portion of the base game, that is all in the nightmare. All the dream shit is built off real world places just as you see with the workshop so the fishing hamlet exists somewhere and what goes on in dreams effects the real world too. You had to kill the Wet Nurse in the Nightmare to end all the crazy shit for the base game.
>>
>>318520848
Does it scale off skill? Think it requires strength though
>>
If you slay Mergo and end the nightmare, why can you return and the nightmare is still there?

If you slay Moon Presence why are you still in the hunter's dream?

If you Slay the orphan of Kos, why are you still in the hunter's nightmare?

Lore wise it's not very fitting

Just got this game but cant figure out where to go. Got to a dead end after killing Vicar Amelia or whatever. Where do I go now? Cant find any areas that have opened.
>>
>>318521059
Because dreams in Bloodborne are real places. Hell they might even all be in the same dimension. When the dreamer dies or wakes up, the dream doesnt end. It continues to exist as an addition to the realm of the Great Ones.
>>
>>318521059
Gameplay considerations I guess. I agree, it would be cool to see the places sealed off after you beat the bosses.
>>
>>318521124
You didn't go left before the entrance to Amelia's cathedral yet? If you already did the witches then look around for a door you need a password to open around the cathedral ward
>>
>>318521110
Well Jeepers, man, that's a face!
>>
>>318521059
The Dreams are actual physical places.
That, and gameplay reasons.
>>
>>318517082
I want to play this game again, but I don't know if it will be easy with the beast claw. I had entire build for the beast claw, and I gave up because it was too difficult. Did it get buffed at all?
>>
>>318521124
Go down to the square with the giants before Amelia there's a path that will be blocked by a giant. Look around there if you see Alfred you're on the right track.
>>
>>318521260
Yes, she has a face.
And arms, with hands, and fingers.
>>
>>318520438
or the great one has to die to give birth without loosing his child. those who won't die are looking for a surrogate
>>
>>318521349
>Monster Girl feelings

Pls no
>>
>>318521312
You can actually get a rune now that gives you an upgraded move set which is a lot of fun, problem is it's at the end of the DLC and regarding the claws they are still underwhelming damage wise unless you manage to get your beast mode bar full, which rarely happens, I haven't tried the milkweed rune + kid parasite yet but that looks like it could be a fun and viable equivalent
>>
>>318520438
>>318521429
It's not really clear if Orphan is actually Kos' birthed child.
Orphan has a Kin form, which would suggest it's something that arose to Great One status, not birthed that way.
>>
>>318521110
>>318521349

what the fuck.
Is there any fanart of this thing alive and with huge boobs yet?
>>
>>318521557
Well the Orphan seems to have the power to grant eyes to the scholars of Byrgenwerth as we know now Kos wasn't doing it cause it was dead. It's clearly got some kind of Great One power.
>>
So was the DLC to Bloodborne similar to what X-Com:Terror From the Deep was to the first X-Com?
>>
>>318521110
Shell Girls > Used Goods Kos
>>
>>318520038
You might have a point. If it were Dark Souls I'd agree. But Bloodborne pulls so heavily from Lovecraft and Cosmic Horror, it's pretty easy to see the parallels. Hell, it's not even "parallel" some shit is so consistent with the author's tales that they could exist within the same Mythos without breaking the internal consistency
>>
so what are the female things worshipping before kos? were so many of them and not hostile.

birth machines for kin?
>>
>>318517836
Pretty sure I just murdered the bloke and didn't return him to the ocean at all m8.
>>
>>318521732
As it stands, Kos was the one to give Rom eyes.
All the shit at the Hamlet takes place after.
Orphan hated the people of Byrgenwerth and cursed them.

>>
>>318521557
Orphan of Kos is someone who was in the process of being reborn as an old one. He was probably some ancient guy who had a ton of insight and was 'taken into' Kos to be rebirthed so that kos could have a child. But for whatever reason, Kos didn't survive and washed up on the shore. Orphan is unfinished, a stillborn great one
>>
>>318521857
I would so hard
>>
What does it mean when it says that the great ones are sympathetic in spirit?
>>
>>318522091
He still arose to Kin-hood.
At least, the game treats him as one during his second form.
>>

>>318522194
They're sympathetic.
They answer when called upon.
They do what people ask of them.
>>
>>318521901
Almost to a tee, yeah. Bloodborne is actually a weird blend of the more famous Lovecraft Cthulhu Mythos with his lesser known Dream Cycle stories. It takes the viscera, cross breeding, and Old Gods from the Mythos and uses the logic of the Dream Cycle to justify the different planes of reality
>>
>>318521857
they probably wouldn't even fight back if you forced yourself on them. Just grab the ridge on their back and go at it for as long as you like while they continue their prayer.
>>
Orphan of Kos is a shibito.

He munched on a fish God Alien. True story.
>>
>>318521846
It's more likely that the Burgers took the knowledge and research they gleamed from the poor Hamlet-folk and did science on Rom.
>>
How do I git gud at beating Lady Maria in her final phase? No matter what I do, her flame attacks keep fucking me over
>>
>>318522194
There like a monkeys paw. They'll help but at a price. Gherman wanted a way to fight the scourge of beasts and he got it but hes eternally cursed to live in the Dream.

Rom got eyes but turns into a giant caterpillar.
>>
>>318522194
>The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. Kin Great Ones aren't.
Also, 'Great One' is a general term for beings of a higher plane and existence.
>>
>>318517082
I saw the Alexander The Great Movie a few days ago. And during parts of movie i was reminded of bloodbornes story.

When they sacrfice an ox "blood is what the gods feed off"

Then i understood the moon presence and the hunters dream. MoonPresence gives you improved abilities in exchange for food(blood echoes). After all im sure the doll and the dream is powered by the moon presence not german.

Even though it ia lovecraft story the ideas behind the Great Ones, Then Phtumerians, Humans is kinda like how the world had Titans, then gods then man.

I mean on a base level, all of their origins are from the Cosmos. I know Kin such as Rom and Orphan didn't literally come from space, but they were only able to happen because of Great Ones from the Cosmos coming to earth.
>>
>>318522504
What worked for me was for her first two phases to keep my distance and parry her, and for her final phase was stay away until she started using her long range/flame attacks. When she starts going to those animations just dodge to her right side and stick close and her attacks will most likely miss at which point you can attack and stunlock her for a little.

>What triggers my autism is the fact that you ascend a tower and exit the clock at ground level

Each 'time' on the Astral Clock refers to a specific Caryll Rune

When you use the Celestial Dial, both hands of the clock stop at the Guidance rune, and Great Lake before opening

Great Lake describes:
>Great volumes of water serve as a bulwark guarding sleep, and an augur of the eldritch Truth. Overcome this hindrance, and seek what is yours

Now enter the Fishing Hamlet and look below the water. It was there all along, above Yharnam; just shielded by a mirrored dimsension

The Clocktower is an invention - and a portal. Their first success in entering the fabricated reality of a Great One

It's actually pretty straight Lovecraft. If you've read Mountains of Madness, Earth also had a succession of beings who interacted with the Great Old Ones. Hell, a couple races straight up went to war with them.

Really, all ambiguity about Bloodborne's plot or deities can likely be resolved by just reading some Lovecraft

>>
>>318523279
I just ran through the game with a STR/ARC build. It's alright. Now that the Augur has parry/backstab abilities, it's better, and the Blacksky Eye helps a bit for ranged options. Moonlight Sword is also pretty cool
>>
>>318523492
I would also like to know this.

So is the whole story no one transcended for real when drinking the bloodeye shit because the orphan cursed hunters/faggotworth for killing his mom so it made them go insane?
>>
>>318523369
Coffins were probably already made, idiot. I think it's safe to assume that in a world as dark as Bloodborne's universe that even before the beast plague death was a pretty common thing so those who made coffins probably had a lot in storage.
>>
>>318523492

I can see that working as long as you get enough str/skill to use chikage or bloodletter. With bloodtinge you could only do damage in their transformed forms, and then you'd have arcane as back up. I don't think it would be an amazing build, but it'd work yeah.
>>
>>318523739
Not at all.
Kos wasn't killed, she washed up on the shore that way.
The Orphan cursed the Byrgenwerth peoples and their children because they came and tortured the Hamlet people, who were peaceful and worshiped Kos.
He was pissed.
>>
>>318521059
Because it works by Lovecraft Dreamworld rules and not "things my brain comes up with while I sleep" rules.

They're physical concurrent realities that overlap with other realities in the same space without ever touching. The Amygdala are the only ones capable of crossing the borders between the realities with the Good Hunter being the exception.
>>
>>318523567
Kos parasite is also nice with pure arcane. Use magic gems to transfer any phys weapon to pure magic
>>
I love the fact that the sea you fight him at is actually the sky of nightmare Yharnam.

Also those ships at the boss room are very reminiscent of the masts at the nightmare frontier, which justifies its place as the "frontier"

I didn't like Dark Souls. Is bloodborne as tedious or slow as DaS? Might pick it up for Christmas.
>>
>>318523228
I just went and looked at the water and you are absolutely right, you see Yharnam down below. This DLC adds so much cool lore stuff. So much foreshadowing that the Great Lake was the dream the Church found out about first.

"Badge of a member of the Choir, elites of the Healing Church.

The eye signifies the very cosmos.

The Choir stumbled upon an epiphany, very suddenly and quite by accident. Here we stand, feet planted in the earth. but might the cosmos be very near us, only just above our heads?"

Miyazaki described the paleblood sky as being like a body drained of blood.

Nightmare Frontier looks like a dried seabed, a nod to Dagon, except for the poisonous green pools and withered coldblood flowers. Blood turns green after extended oxidation (exposure to the elements), it's as if it was once a blood ocean, a reflection of Loran, being the first to fall to the scourge.

Hunter's Nightmare is similarly covered in blood, only it's fresh and blooming with vegetation, a comparably recent calamity. Both Loran and Yharnam were cursed for bleeding the cosmos, which upset the biosphere of the sky and led to the death of Kos,

In Japanese mythology a mermaid (ningyo) washing up on the shore is a sign of environmental catastrophe.
>>
>>318523915
I thought it was pretty cool too

>in Nightmare Yharnam one of those shell ladies falls from the sky near the Whirlgig Saw
>when entering the Fishing Hamlet you can see Nightmare Yharnam from deep in the ocean
>>
>>318523990
The two words I would use to describe BB are fast and chaotic. It's kind of a half way point between Souls and a fast paced actual action game
>>
>>318524195
I never realised the significance of the shell lady until my second DLC playthrough. I think that kind of detail is what made me fall in love with this expansion.
>>
>>318524073
Tedious as in having the same tactic of circling foes until you can backstab and backtracking a ton because you'll die a lot.

>>318524131
Doesn't sound too bad, its kind of what I wanted in DaS
>>
>>318524020
It's not Yharnam you're seeing. It's the Hunter's Nightmare.

The Nightmare Frontier is above the Fishing Hamlet as well. You can see the masts of the shipwrecks from the Frontier. The Nightmare of Mensis stands away and above from the frontier as well.

The location of the Hunter's Dream is the only mystery but given that you can see other versions of the Hunter's Dream on the pillars all around yours and it's close to the moon it's probably the highest reality of them all.

The old blood that Mensis experimented with comes from Oedon who originally impregnated the Yharnam Queen. The blood that the Choir experimented with came from Ebrietas. Byrgenwerth itself were the only ones that had access to the blood of Kos and her parasites.

Oedon also has a thing for pale blonde bitches.
>>

Well backstabbing is pretty hard to pull off, so there's no circling. And backtracking depends purely on how bad you're at the game, it's not really different from dark souls.
>>
>>318523279
It's the best build.
>>
>>318524357
you will probably die a lot yeah
backstabbing works differently in bloodborne so circling around and backstabbing isnt really a thing
to backstab in bloodborne you have to do a charged heavy attack from behind the enemy, and they rarely stand still long enough

>>318523205
Technically, Rom doesn't count as kin either by the game's math.

Moon Presence, Amygdala, Mergo's Wet Nurse, Rom, and Orphan of Kos all aren't classified as kin. Since it's very likely Rom was a human once, and Kos made her into what she became, odds are pretty good that kin only refers to man-made fuckup attempts at making an old one.

Or maybe it was just for number balance reasons. Who the fuck knows.
>>
Does anyone know of a good build/strategy that'll let me speed my way to the appropriate DLC content level?

My main is on NG+ and I really don't want my first run of the DLC to be on poorly balanced NG+ damage sponges.
>>
Truly the only thing I'm confused about is the Astral Clocktower.
I know the Hamlet was once part of the real world, near Cainhurst I think?
I know all the shit that happened then, but I don't get where and when the Clocktower comes into play.
I know it was meant to hide the secret, but it's kind of odd.
Was it real? Was it only in the Nightmare?

I always thought that this was Gehrman roaming through the Nightmare when I first saw the trailer. I kept expecting to run into him at some point in the expansion.

When Orphan goes into his winged form, he's considered Kin by in-game damage modifiers.

You're just gonna have to run through the game. I'd do BSB and Hemwick as well so you have a properly upgraded weapon and materials for DLC weapons, and then just go after Amelia. You'll be a bit underlevelled, but you'll catch up quickly enough.

Clocktower is real as you can hear it throughout the entire game.

This fight, as well as Laurence, are one of the most unfair fights in the game. Also one of the most fun ones discounting Orphan's second form whic is just bullshit. On low levels the second form's AoE attacks can oneshot you and you have no way of teling where they land. I'm somewhat proficient in the fight and most of them against him go like this:

>parry him until he is low health
>parry him once or twice after he switches to second form
>little damage taken thus far
>he jumps in the airs and OHKO's me with AoE
>>
>>318524637
Isn't Rom specifically mentioned as a human ascended to a Kin Great One as far as the lore is concerned? Rom even has Kin tier damage modifiers when you fight her.
>>
>>318524796
Gehrman is in the Fishing Hamlet though.

The man muttering curses on Byrgenwerth is voiced by Gehrman's VA. The Orphan of Kos also uses Gehrman's crying and screaming audio and some of his animations.

When you set the Orphan free Gehrman rests peacefully for once according to the doll.
>>
>>318524796
I was rather disappointed to see Gehrman, of all people, to be missing in the old fucking hunters dlc.

I fucking hate the fact that I didn't know this. Since normally water/ocean meant DEATH in the series.

Also my attempts against Orphan got progressively worse every time. First attempt I didn't give a poo and got him down to 25%, then somehow the more moves I learned to pay attention to, the shittier I did

Eventually I summoned two people from /bbg/ and gangbanged him. Got a cool weapon and then learned that it's utter shit unless you have 99 Arcane with sickdark gems from the deepest chalice shithole

While Bloodborne does have faster combat and there's much less backstab fishing since you need to do a charge attack to pull it off, the best tactics in Bloodborne are pretty much the same defensive tactics use in Dark Souls when not using a shield or backstabbing. It's best to circle around your opponent, wait for them to attack first, and dodge behind them to get a couple hits or to combo them to death. This game tries to promote more aggression with regaining health you lost by attacking enemies and not having shields, but it's still far too risky to just attack enemies late game without waiting for them to attack first.

''Kos is dead''

''Kos is dead, her baby bait (fake/bake?)''

''Dear Kos...''

''a rotting seed (sea?)''

Kin bonus damage doesn't apply to Rom. She does take more damage from lightning than fire though (like all enemies in-game actually classified as kin), while the other non-kin great ones like moon presence and amygdala take equal damage from fire and lightning. She also drops kin coldblood, which is weird for not being counted in-game as kin.

Another interesting thing is that non-kin great ones take equal damage from Arcane, Fire, and Lightning. Kin great ones (with the only weird exception being Rom not classified as one), are all highly resistant to arcane, neutral to fire, and weakest to lightning.

Again, could just be reading too much into the numbers. Seems weird that there are very distinct patterns, with only 2 oddballs (orphan going kin in second half, and rom not being classified as kin period).

I'm just talking about in-game damage classifications. Bonus damage to kin does not affect Rom.

The game is very meticulous about its enemy classifications. Enemies of certain types all share similar defenses and are all affected by bonus damage against its type. Hell, the game even gives bonus damage for serrated weapons against highly transformed beasts (werewolves and all beast bosses), and a bonus for church weapons against anything in Cainhurst.

Everything else in the game points to Rom being a kin, but its not actually classified that on a damage level. Which doesn't necessarily mean anything, it's just highly bizarre. It would be like serrated damage giving extra damage to all beast bosses except blood starved. It's also too weird to be a mistake, just like Orphan only starting to take bonus kin damage in the 2nd half. It's intentional for whatever reason that might be.
