Except, gen 2 outdoes gen 1 in every way. You still had that feeling of wanting to collect everything, but there was MORE. The Pokemon started getting kickass designs like Lugia and the legendary dogs and the games were finally in color. Trading let you rely on friends who had the other version to catch Pokemon so you could trade them something they didn't, and battling was very common since everyone had a cable.
Not to mention, how there was always that one faggot who claimed to have Celeby, but they didn't.

But what makes red stand above the remakes for me is the glitches, and terrible sprites.
Finally encountering missingno, walkthrough wall glitch, safari zone glitch.
