Goto Start > search bar.
Type services.msc
A window opens, scroll until you find 'Windows Audio'
Properties > Start it up again OR restart it. Make sure startup type is set to Automatic.

This happened to me today. I disabled and re-enabled my sound device.
Well anon i don't know much about pc's but if your pc is off while applying thermal paste i'm fairly positive you will have no sound.
