I got a 770 4GB for $200 used and it's great. But you can get a 970 for the same price as a 770 nowadays unless you buy used. And most 770s are 2GB models anyways, so a 3.5GB 970 is still a big step up.
>>
>>318438438
seriously if you aren't going to spring for a 4 GB card, get a 2 GB card. your games are going to be optimized either for 2 or 4, so your 3.5 may as well be a 2.

Why buy a 3.5meme card? The R9 390 is a slightly better card for slightly less money. Also, in two years nvidia will gimp that card to the point where you'll be forced to buy a completely new gpu. Nvidia cards age like milk.

they don't make the 770 anymore though so unless you're going to be someone's used, booger-infested card, it's going to be like 400 dollars to get a new 770. but the 770 is also a meme card and is outperformed by it's amd counterparts.

It'll perform worse than it should given its specs. Also, Nvidia never releases their latest tech for cards older than a year or two. Nvidia is basically apple with it's planned obsolescence. They force dumb consumers to rebuy meme card after meme card.

Any Titan

That's the general consensus at least.
If you don't wanna drop big bucks but want something with decent performance a 270/280 or 750ti are a good purchase. If you want a great card the 390 is there. For what it is, the 960 is actually decent, but just be aware it's a rebranded 770. Still, at 180-220 it's a good price for the performance you get. As it's a 2GB card you should only get it if you're gaming at 1080p and not wanting to max everything.

970 is just kinda pricey compared to the competition that offers full 4GB or even 6-8GB on top of being somewhat cheaper. It's not a bad card, but a 390/390x will perform similarly if not better and at the same price point.
>>
>>318440003
What I just don't update the drivers? Are you telling me that the card destroys itself from use in that short amount of time?

You know you're exactly like the people defending consoles running upscaled shit at 20 fps. 1440p is pretty much the new standard.

Will a 660 suffice for Dark Souls 3? If you think not, what card should I buy before March?

I was thinking about getting a 960 or a 970.

I don't know how much more powerful the 960 is and the 970 is pretty expensive.
>>
>>318440279
It's not the fan that is the issue, it's the coil whine.
The card literally starts buzzing when playing things at high frame rates. Think of that high pitched sound a crt television makes, it's like that.

>>318440989
Yes, he's exactly like those guys. You nailed it, man. Good going.
>>

>1440p is pretty much the new standard.
In what universe? The most popular cards by far at the moment are the GTX 970 and R9 390, and neither can do 1440p at 60fps at max settings for graphically intensive games. And those are the most brand new cards.

Also

http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

Only 1.27% of steam users are using 2560 x 1440 and only 0.06% are using 3440 x 1440. Steam is the largest PC gaming platform, and it such a minuscule percentage seem to be using that, then it's hardly the "standard" for gaming. 1080p is the standard for gaming and will be the standard for many years to come. Consoles haven't even reached 1080p yet. Almost every major release on the PS4 and Xbox are 900p or 762p or some other weird interlaced resolution.

I ran into my first memory problem with it the other day. I was trying to play Black Ops III co-op across 2 monitors (3840x1080) and the game told me it ran out of video memory and crashed. It happened in the briefing room while in menus, though... Guessing there was just some kind of memory leak.

I capped the game at 30 FPS and the actual levels ran fine, though. Couldn't stand it being 60 and dipping down.

My strong bet is that you're gonna need a better CPU for the 970.

I don't take you for a very tech interested / specs whore kind of person or I'd suggest you upgrade your Motherboard to current gen for that LGA 1156 CPU socket for some mild future proofing but I doubt you will open your case for the next 4 years and I will instead insist that you get LGA 1150 based Motherboard and a i5-4690K CPU to go along with it. 80-series Motherboards need a BIOS update to work with the i5-4690K so I suggest you get a 90-series Motherboard instead and avoid the hassle of doing that. The i5-4690K wont be bottlenecking any graphics card or mainstream [console port] game for quite a while and it will most likely last considerably longer than your i5-650. 8GB of DDR3 ram is pretty much standard but make sure to leave half the ram slots open for upgradeability in the future, 12GB or 16GB ram is pretty much the sweet spot for daily use right now since you don't have to give a fuck about how many applications you have running when entering a game or doing any kind of work.

Apart from the 1GB versions of the 750ti, the whole model line has considerably lower price/performance ratio compared to the 950 in northern Europe at the moment.

Should be fine in the US though.
