Play LISA: The First first, it's not really necessary but it's only like an hour long and it sheds a lot of light on the background of some of the characters. Then LISA: The Painful then LISA: The Joyful. LISA: The Painful is the main game.
It was overhyped a bit on /v/. The mutants are pretty freaky-looking, and the rather dark humor and just general depressing storyline was pretty good to me. Definitely better than LOLSORANDUM humor found in other post-apocalyptic games.
I just appreciate that the whole game, including the music, was made by one guy. Not sure if that's anything special in the indie scene though.

I played Lisa The First mid-way through Painful. It was a good decision in retrospect because in Painful no one ever explains who Lisa is or why she is so important. When i stopped playing during the second half, and went to play The First, it was a nice reveal, or a twist, whatever you want to call it. I'd actually advise people to do what i did, since The First only takes 2 hours to beat blind.

While it does get disproportionate praise it's still a really solid game.
It takes some old ideas and shines them up. I love how each enemy is named and aside from two areas there are no random encounters. Without much viable grinding options it makes loot, consumables and exp a lot more important. It uses the resource management elements of rpgs and uses them to simulate a survival experience.
Dingaling also seems to understand atmosphere and style. Despite being minimalistic it's evocative of something familiar and weird. It's got a kicking soundtrack to build the mood and lets the player unravel the world on their own. The lack of a morality system makes the few moral choices feel more meaningful. It's a game that seems to be very hands off without becoming a wishy-washy open-world experience. It gives you this neat little world and a mission, then lets you plow thru it, ruining everything in your way.
Unlike a lot of indie shit LISA actually feels like a fucking game.
Joyful is still a disappointment though.

Joyful was good, it closed most of the plot points as well as the game's world and setting allowed them to be closed. That said it's really not worth its full price considering it's not half as long as Joyful, it's about 1/4th of the Painful.
It's a good epilogue and Buddy being an edgy unlikable cunt makes perfect sensethe real "bad guys" were Rick and Sticky for pampering her like a spoiled princess behind Brad's back.
I think Brad is a pretty cool guy. He kill druggies and doesn’t afraid of anything.

It was okay from a story perspective - it gave you a pretty fitting closure without "destroying" the world, as you can still ask yourself some questions. The binary choice is something that I usually loathe, but I suppose in Buddy's case, it really could've went both ways (stay or leave). Pity the gameplay was so lacking and that there was no incentive not to use Joy.
I played it for one hour so far. It's a very interesting game but the million branching paths make it a pretty overwhelming experience.
