I was cautiously optimistic about this until they put cash shop items in that weren't just cosmetic but had gameplay abilities and most likely nixed the f2p ork faction. They said the orks will wait until after launch, but with their current play model of team based shooting I don't think they're going to find room for people that aren't paying them. So, all F2P players are Orks, which means there is going to be more of them than Space Marines, Chaos and Eldar. The rest will be added in. Oh apart from Nids. Those are NPC only.
As for playing Daemonettes, I doubt any game will have them. You might get lucky with Dark Nexus, but it's a MOBA, thou it does have Sisters of Battle as a hero, which surprised me (and tempted me to buy it).

What pisses me off is that nobody realizes how fucking huge 40k is. You can take pretty much any setting, switch a few things to make it 40k and bam, you have something that doesn't go against canon.
Even book writers don't seem to realize that. Zou and Abnett are pretty much the only two guys that make their Imperial forces diverse and add their own things to them. And Zou was thrown out because he plagiarized some veterans book almost verbatim IIRC.
For fucks sake, make the POVs/PCs Deathwatch, Inquisition or a Rogue Trader and you can literally equip them with any kind of shit you want and throw them against anything you want. And as long as it isn't completely retarded and doesn't go against the established fluff you can handwave it with lol it's Chaos/unknown Xenos/DAoT tech, I don't have to explain shit.

Ian Watson did "good" Inquisition books but they're so ancient that they sound weird to new players because there's stuff like squats, and talking Tyranids.
There's also a couple of Rogue Trader books that aren't too bad but they basically boil down to Imperial Navy in Space with a side of political intrigue because ships shooting each other sells better than politicking.
Goto did Deathwatch, the less said the better. Warrior Brood gave us the space marine multilasers after all.
Space Marines keep getting books because they're easy to write battleporn about and they sell well.

I'm more interested in why the fuck are there no more movies or video games. You only have to build around the story/gameplay and make it 40k, you don't have to confine yourself to really tight specifics.
But on the other hand, 40k is so vast that it's hard to make a movie that will appeal to hardcore fans, but at the same time will compel people who don't know about it, to watch and understand it. I think the easiest way would be to make a collection of shorter movies with different styles and directors. Some would be somewhat lore heavy, others would be just straight up gorefests.

The Ultramarine movie wasn't very good, the fans I've talked to hated it and the only people that thought it was an average action movie were people with no interest in the franchise. The Blood Quest movie was killed off after GW got cold feet so only some test footage remains, and they blocked the fan made movie due to IP law concerns. As far as I know it goes like this:
Fantasy was selling like shit, because the army sizes were massive. So GW has a good idea to make Fantasy more skirmish based like 40k. So instead of doing a sensible thing and supporting stuff like Mordheim and making other small scale games, they decided to destroy everything about Fantasy. Now Age of Shitmar is selling like shit because surprise surprise, the lore of Fantasy was what was liked about it. The books sold well (Gotrek & Felix) for example.
As for 40k, Space Marines sell well I think since children are into them. However the prices are going up all the time so I'd estimate that they are selling less and less. There's also the whole 3D-printing looming around the corner.
If GW was smart they'd capitalize on the 3D printing by selling some printer plastic and meshes for people to use.
Instead I believe they will try to deny the problem and will ban anyone using knockoff-models.
Either way the model scene is dropping rapidly since the prices are steadily climbing. The best part about Warhammer are the book series like Ciaphas Cain, Gaunt's Ghosts, Gotrek & Felix, et cetera.

Recasters are a bigger threat to GW than 3D printing. It's cheaper than buying a printer, and the results can actually pass for official if they're well prepped and painted.
