1. ESRB does not care. Games were going to be T rated anyway, and we can establish many prior cases like The Sims and Senran Kagura where this exact kind of content is no problem.
2. They aren't going to sell more copies. In particular with Xenoblade X, we know they don't care to advertise it, they aren't looking for mainstream success, and at least one branch (and one now-fired interviewee) has admitted that they think it's only going to sell to a niche market that already knows about it. Nobody's purchasing decision was positively impacted by censorship. Either you didn't know there was even an issue and picked it off the shelf without foreknowledge, or you've been following the game at which point you know about the censorship and are either indifferent to it or unhappy with it. Nobody who was interested in this game (and remember, Nintendo professed to only care about this niche because they aren't advertising it) was only going to get it if the boob slider was removed. However, some people would surely dislike it. They're only hurting themselves.
Your argument is premised on this ridiculous notion that there still exist soccer moms with WiiUs that complain about this. There are two problems: one, there's no data suggesting that "news backlash" affects sales. Did it sink Mass Effect?
