Since nobody replied -

Is Arx Fatalis worth getting? Heard both positive and negative things about this game.

Oh and I loved Morrowind.

I'll probably get the new Wolfenstein. Nothing else really appeals to me, or I've got it already, or the discount is too small.

It's on my list, but I've yet to play it. I really only heard good things about it, although very rarely, since nobody talks about it much in the first place.
I've heard the whole game was remade by a fan project, with better compatibility, stability etc.

Is Mad Max worth 10 euros ?
>>
>>318381724
It's definitely worth getting, but I wouldn't compare it to Morrowind at all. It's not really open world, and you don't have the broad variety of side quests.
The game was made to be played as a mage, the combat system is great. It also has a very nice and unique setting and atmosphere.

You should download Arx Libertatis though, if you don't want your game to crash nonstop.
>>
>>318382010
I got a solid 50 hours out of it

it's repetitive as holy fuck but I actually enjoyed it

not too much beyond beating the story though, they threw in the repetitive elements to make it seem longer

I got it $20 from a key site and I don't regret it

Personal niche recommendations (1/2):

Runestone Keeper — great rougelite / miner game. Looks simple on first look, but has pretty deep gameplay in it.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/339400

Desktop Dungeons — coffee brake rougelike with puzzle elements and huge replayability.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/226620

Tales of Maj'Eeal — the best rougelike on the market. Looks simple, but has almost limitless potential for hours to spend in it. Plus ingame chat with pleasant community always willing to help.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/259680

Battle Brothers — medieval fantasy turn-based RPG / RTS, with surprisingly deep gameplay, fantastic atmosphere and promises of it being even better game after EA is over. The best turnbased game I played in 10 years.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/365360

The Talos Principle — first person puzzle game made by devs of Serious Sam. Rich and interesting challenges with deep story and beautiful world.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/257510

Antichamber — First-person puzzle that doesn't play like Portal 2 at all. It's a mind-bending game, that makes you through away preconceptions and prior experience playing videogames and think differently.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/219890

Lovely Planet — Super Meat Boy in first person with coulourful world and very-very challenging levels. Speed run game.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/298600

Snakebird — surprisingly hard but neat puzzle game. Easy buy for those who want both challenging and clever experience.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/357300

Eldritch — first person action inspired by rougelikes and Lovecraft. It's $1.5
http://store.steampowered.com/app/252630

Teleglitch — Quake II-esque world from top-down perspective and one life.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/234390

The Fall — platformer / puzzle / adventure with good story and dialogs. Rather short.

Personal niche recommendations (2/2):

Hexcells — neat little variation on minesweeper. Relaxing music and enough levels to keep you busy for a few evenings.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/265890

Infested Planet — take control of a squad responsible of purging huge amount of xenos in a top-down realtime strategy. Has this Aliens / WH40k vibe. Really good game made by a single guy.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/204530

Jets'n'Guns — absolutely fantastic and rad SHMUP with ridiculous number of levels, enemies, Jets and GUNS. Shoot tomato, or machinegun that utilizes clones of superman as ammunition. Fucking GORGEOUS soundtrack by cult power-metal group Machinae Supremacy.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/262260

Shadowgate — really well done remake of an old NES adventure game. Just right game to spend dull autumn evenings in almost pen-n-paper world. Good experience for those who love the genre.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/294440

Silent Storm — still relevant RPG / TBS made by Russians, set in the WWII / post-WWII world. More than solid, — the best turn based system I've ever seen in any game. If you're shooting after running be prepared to spend more AP. Full and total destruction of almost anything you can find on levels. Rare game to have Axis campaign.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/254960

Chaser — dated, but still visually good FPS with pretty bad level designs (it's really easy to get lost), but HUGE FUCKING LENGTH of campaign and surprisingly good story / gunplay. Music adds to already great atmosphere.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/39670

Duck Game — it's a game. About Ducks. Imagine Smash! with ducks and lots of different weapons, destructible environment, and dedicated QUACK button. Must have for parties.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/312530

Hammerwatch — probably the best Gauntlet inspired game that ever came out.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/239070

Yeah, it's SP, but there's chat for people to talk. You'd be surprised how neat this little thing is. Game is pretty complex and challenging, so the chances that you will need help with something are rather high.
>>
>>318382336
yes you can chat playing solo on a global channel

and you can see when everyone dies and how

it's a pretty legit game and could last practically forever if you really get into it

Not that steep. You have hero, skill, items, and you attack enemies by bumping into them or casting spells / skills. You can try the free version at te4.org. The version at Steam is the same, as if you donated in-game. You get one more class and a treasure chest to keep your belongings.

it's really fun, but not for everyone. it's like 800mb so go to /gsg/ and download it from the mega link to see if you like it

>>318382418
you could, but some of it is basically vital. reposting from another thread

sword of islam lets you play muslims
legacy of rome adds tons of things that should have just been patched in
the republic lets you play as a merchant republic which is fun as hell and a completely different experience
the old gods lets you play as pagans who can raid their neighbors for loot. germanic pagans can raid any coastal province and travel through major rivers. pushes the start back to 867. you can also play as zoroastrian
sons of abraham adds more pope mechanics, ability to play as jews, and lots of new religious events including pilgrimages
rajas of india adds india with a caste system, buddhism, jainism and hinduism
charlemagne pushes the start date to 769. special events if you play as charlemagne, ability to create your own empires, new cultures and some other minor upgrades

shit's super expensive to buy all the dlc. don't feel bad about pirating that shit. it's easy to do and a lot of that stuff should have been patched/those expansions should have been bundled together. you can have a legit copy of the base game and then pirate all the dlc with no problems

I personally recommand Downwell. Good roguelite/platformer with good mechanics+ a useless but still cool wall jump super metroid style.

Also, a classic but so easily forgotten. Spacechems. It is a true gem. A challenging puzzle game to the point that it can give headaches, but we are not exactly flooded with hard puzzle games. So give it a go. The devs did also infinifactory which is a spacechems in 3 dimensions.

There are several games that around double that;
Dark Souls
Metal Gear Rising
X-Wing Alliance / TIE Fighter

Dark Souls is easily worth that much. You're gonna get at least 40h of playtime from it, not counting subsequent playthroughs and PvP.
MGR is really short, but fun, and has ranking system as replayability, although I personally don't like that.

>>318383608
Guacamelee is shit. There are better metroidvania out there, like valdis story, teslagrad, and of course La Mulana if you have the guts.

Guacamelee is sadly Guacameme because everything it does is just referencing other games.
Played 2-3 hours before being fed up with the constant "ah ah it is a chozo statue but not exactly", the metroids in the background, the references to Mario, Castle Crashers, Zelda, etc... It is garbage. The combat system is not too bad, but could have been better.

For a total newcomer, Dark Souls can easily take you more than 60 hours to beat if you try to do everything. And that's just for one character. The replayability is also quite good
>>
>>318384409
It's not a bad game just because it's Guacameme (which it indeed is).
Valdis Story features unbearably angsty teenage cast and story, but is still a good game, as you said. Except the fucking bugs, which I hope they fixed since I've tried to play it.

The thing about CK2's DLCs is that a few of them add some real content, and all the others are just portraits and music packs that don't have any influence on gameplay.

It really didn't have any identity. I can forgive a game having a strong identity for having weak mechanics, but not the other way around. Guacamelee isn't good in itself because the gameplay was not that great, and the whole deja vu in every single place of the game was infuriating.

You quite quickly forget the angsty teenagers of Valdis Story thanks to the battle system. The environments were quite good too even if they were not revolutionnary.

It sometimes has humor, but the comedy usually falls flat.

The problem with the humor is that it's all just reference shit with no joke, like most Family Guy cutaways. You have the meme billboards, yeah, that's a given. But like you said, one of the "jokes" is that a statue looks like a Chozo statue, but it's spelled slightly different.

Considering the theme and setting of the game, there was so much more opportunity for actual humor instead of referencing everything with no joke.

Anyway, the game itself I still feel is fantastic. The gameplay is very fun and it did the light world/dark world thing pretty well, making it fit with the Mexican theme well too. It's not the best of its kind, but absolutely still worth playing.

I bought antichamber a long time ago, but I got sick of it when it shifted from exploring a non-euclidean maze to annoying block-gun shit.

Maybe I was just too dumb to figure out some of the puzzles, but it wasn't fun taking ages to set up something with the block gun, only to get it wrong and be led back where you started, then having to go through a ton of long block puzzles you already solved to get back where you were.
>>
>>318385972

It's pretty bad. Gameplay is 50% QTEs, very linear, story is garbage, Lara "I can do this" Croft.

You know what's weird? RE2 and 3 aren't on Steam.

They've already got PC ports. And have since like 2002. I guess they figure the trouble of putting them on Steam isn't worth it, but that's never stopped them before.

Yes it is true, the reference shit is cringe worthy and pulls the whole game down, but the gameplay, controls and puzzles really good. In the end it's up to you to decide if you want to bare with the lackluster comedy attempts.

I think it's still a good game, it's just a shame the meme shit really brings the whole thing down.

Guacamelee is fine, I enjoyed the mook combo-based gameplay (falls apart on bosses, unfortunately) and the platforming in the optional levels.

And the fucking chicken costume just makes the game easy modo, why is that fucking costume allowed with no penalties

Dragon Age Origins ultimate edition worth buying? It's been on my wishlist for years but I've never felt like paying £5 for it.

I bought rocket league with the soundtrack, and assassins creed rouge. I have rocket league as a ps plus game on PlayStation, but want to be able to keep it when it expires. It's pretty fun, I'm enjoying it. Haven't played rouge on there yet, relieved it as a gift on PS3 and wanted to actually play it at 60fps since the console version was capped.

So the Steam sale is almost over and I'm still looking at more games to purchase, though now I've got a odd hankering for something with co-op & multiplayer.

I should also note, I'm largely a /vr/ fag and haven't really played that many games like these before and want to try something new, so I'm looking at recommendations for games on Steam that have good online multiplayer & co-op.

My most recent purchase is both episodes of Serious Sam HD and Left 4 Dead 2 though I haven't spent much time with either.

Like a matter of weeks. Newfriend the one thing you gotta learn with Steam is patience.

>Winter/Summer sales are always the biggest
>this is because of flash and daily sales
>when a sale comes up you gotta ask
>is it on a flash or daily sale?
>is it -75% or better?
>most importantly, will I play it over the next half a year?
If no to the first two, wait for it to go -75% or a flash/daily. If you miss it there's an encore at the end of a Winter/Summer sale where everything goes back to its lowest price. If no, you're not going to play it within the next half a year, then wait until next big sale dummy.

SoC and CoP are even stevens in my mind. SoC does the story better, but CoP just has improved gameplay with weapon/armour mods, some faction stuff etc. CS is generally considered the black sheep, but if you really like the idea of rolling around town with your faction buddies apparently there's some mod that fixes it up a bit and allows you to do exactly that.

It has a different feel. Game is more like an actual RPG, with a plot that's more serious (and there) and is I would say a love letter to old JRPG games (although it does drag in certain places, and the humor is more toned down in later parts).

It might be a "love it or hate" deal, I enjoyed how they changed it up for the sequel, but I can see why people who expected more of the arcade-y style of the first would be put off.

What's up with the dead rising series? I always thought it looked fun-ish (I love the idea of mindlessly hacking and slashing through hordes of zombies while getting stronger and better weapons), but the idea of the unavoidable timer always threw me off.
