I think the problem with AVGN now is that he's been doing the same thing for too long.
Like, if you removed a bunch of the fat from the movie and swapped a few characters for characters from the actual series, the movie would've actually been pretty rad. It was a different take on the Nerd, so it felt nicer than another episode on the same couch shouting the same expletives at the same shit game design/glitches.
Board James not only had recurring characters to beef the dynamism, but also fell into a procedural narrative that helped rope people in.
AVGN could use a writing overhaul, really.
I think now that it's canon that Board James and AVGN are the same person (and apparently both personalities are functioning simultaneously now), there's room for some interesting avenues in AVGN's future and I think James is more than willing to take those opportunities.
Honestly I only watched them as a kid back then because I was interested in all the old video games he reviewed like the Virtual Boy and shit like that. I actually wished he didn't swear back then because my parents wouldn't let me watch it.
