The Hell Knights were one of the better designs from Doom 3. Also Barons of Hell in Doom 4 use the old the minotaur and hooves look.

After playing the closed alpha (XBOX ONE) I can certainly and safely confirm that the franchise is still in capable hands. It was such a sweet rush of nostalgia and fast paced gunplay that we are used to.

The revenant was OP as fuck though.

They are and are hard to pull off.
Why? Gives it good pacing.
Keep in mind it's hard as shit to pull off because the movement is so fast. Not only do you need to knock off all armor (which is indicated on how much of a green contrast is on an enemy) but you also have to knock HP down to 25-35 I believe. When its ready you'll see a white shimmer leaving them open for the attack.

I've played the alpha between 35-45 hours and I've pulled it off maybe half a dozen times. I've averaged a 2.5 KD/R and used the plasma rifle and the vortex rifle almost exclusively

First, FOV is literally 50 and for a fast game Doom actually should be, FOV50 would mean shitload of twitch movement with mouse, looking around, either this guy played this level for 20000 times and he knows what, when and where will come out, but even then he wouldn move his mouse slow like a pansy.
Im even willing to believe graphics wont be too far away(what with IDTech5,fast SSDs,8 gb vram GPUs and all) but gameplay will be shit if you will be able to move your mousr that slow.

When I first saw the E3 gameplay, I liked it.

My one true complaint was the finishers, but after months of thinking about it, I can really accept it.

You can call it jarring and intrusive on the gameplay experience, but as someone who always goes for the hardest difficulty, having split-second, pivotal breaks to understand what your next immediate action will be really, really helps.

It's the same as the momentary breather you get after dodging an enemy in Serious Sam. Or when you bash an enemy back in Killing Floor. Or when you throw a pipe bomb in Left 4 Dead.

Not trying to say it's actually a good thing, but I can definitely deal with it.

And the idea should be that Doom 4 adds and expands on what Doom 1 and 2 established.

So if it really can't at least match the originals in terms of quality then it shouldn't really be bothered with.

However the Hell sections of the game is really good, very nice designs and the encounters are well done.

Doom 3 on it's own when not compared to Doom 1 and 2 stands out okay.

Issues were lack of level design in regard of enemy spawns and their variety, and highly questionable new enemy design, most notably their blending into background and immunities killing pacing

AFAIK. They used toy guns for the animation in doom. I have seen photos where the regular shotgun in doom is mby 40 cm long kids toy. Don't know what they used for double barrel but imho they didn't really care of whether the proportions were of sawed off shotgun or not. They just wanted it to read as shotgun with 2 barrels.

Carmacks job was to make Romeros ideas work in game and they together made great games. On their own they both suck ass and are really incompetent. I looked at that Doom footage and felt fucking nothing. It had DOOM stuff in it, but it all felt like checking boxes. Like a bunch of middle-aged men saying "Well I THINK this is what DOOM is".

DOOM isn't a fucking hell level, it isn't a chainsaw, hell it isn't even a double barreled shotgun. DOOM is a fucking state of mind. It can only come out of the deranged head of a giant manchild still stuck in a 12 year olds mind.. DOOM isn't rad if the people making DOOM don't even feel it's rad.

I'd rather see DOOM try something absolutely crazy and fail spectaculary then this safe, by the numbers reboot.
