That is the case in literally every MMO. People don't like to play tank because it puts a lot of responsibility on you (though speaking as a tank, healing is harder because all tanks generally have to do is hold aggro).
Which means there aren't many tanks. Which means tanks are given special treatment in-game usually because they're doing something most players won't do. Which justifies their feeling of entitlement because the game rewards them for being tanks.

Tanking is always the easiest role, but people are scared of it because its much more abstract than push buttons to kill thing or push buttons to fill up health bars.
Things have changed a lot over the years though. In most MMOs you dont have a lack of tanks anymore because people have a better understanding of the concept.

The game keeps track of everything you do, so it's actually super easy to know what you did and didn't pick. It's how Wowhead can know.
Also they said they will go back to all the quests you did, and the items you DIDN'T pick as the rewards, you get those looks too.

I loved vanilla, and BC growing up. Back then there wasn't much to compare it to though. other than EQ, and FF11, which was pretty similar to EQ in terms of grind and raiding. Trying to go back and play vanilla though is fucking horrendous. It was good for it's time, but who would want to deal with vanilla's bullshit again.
Was there great things about Vanilla? Definitely. Was there tons of bad things? Of course. People always focus on the good over of the bad when it comes to nostalgia and the forget all the gripes people had with vanilla.

But from my experience(60 rogue and a few other classes between 10-20) It has a very large english user base and most non native english speakers.
Started playing mid BC. Even I noticed a decline in the overall "capabilities" I guess you'd say of the overall players.

Once again hop into a PUG in raid finder with same m8. M8 is a healer and is so efficient is able to toss the occasional offensive spell out the in between heals without going OOM. Never over or under heals
Meanwhile his fellow resto shaman is overhealing EVERYONE and complaining about being OOM. M8 takes over and carries. I'm pumping out my usual DPS and every other DPS is hovering in the high 20k mark. Some almost as geared as me. Fellow fury warrior in the raid in the fucking mid teens as far as DPS.
I speak up and call him out on it, claims he is surprised I can talk and that bots are getting more and more convincing everyday as there is no way I'm a real player putting out that much damage.
Stopped playing when the pandas came along.

And even if they followed the legendary model, either they're like the ring/cloak where everyone gets it easily, or it's like vanilla/bc where you get them in raids, oh wait raids are extremely accessible and now everyone gets it.
