Dude, I never ever even ever watched Digimon when I was a kid, and I seriously know ZERO about the story or world or whatever.
That said, I saw some vids of this and it's basically looking like the most solid turn-based RPG I can get on the Vita, plus a mix of Pokemon (which I was all about growing up).
So yeah, I'm getting it on the handheld. Pretty hype about it too.
So knowing nothing about the story, what am I in for?

It looks like its SMT-ish in terms of doom and gloom, Digimon was a series that got series and dark in some cases so it didn't baby the viewers.
This one is aimed more at adults. You can expect jumping in computers, cute girls, breeding digimon, and kicking ass with team moves.

Like you said, fanservice was perfect. Looking passed that you can see that the animation is immense with QUALITY and it only does so much being the first part that sets everything in motion, but as a fan it was pretty much perfect.
