All I can hope now is that my money is refunded before release, so that I can place another order, and hope Wal-Mart doesn't accept more than necessary.
This game will more than likely be in the ballpark range of 350-450k. Here's why:
As of January the Wii-U sold just over 9 million units (with 1.9 million estimated to be driven by holiday sales.) and if you factor that Wii-U daily estimated the console selling about 2.5k units daily (not accounting for holiday sales much like the smash/splat bundle being offered) we can safely assume the install base being roughly around 11 million units sold to date.
Now VGChartz states the number a bit lower but due to the system seeing a bit more in sales this season we'll let it slide.
And everyone can agree that VGCharts isn't exaclty the most accurate of websites when it comes to numbers but we can use it to speculate the rough number. The game currently has roughly 140k pre-orders, now this is both the regular and CE's.
Now factor in the fact that of the systems that have already been that were either returned, traded in, broken, pawned, etc etc. we can safely say that the number off possible buyers can by downed by one quarter.
Now factor in that this is a niche game genre, most JRPG's don't do well in western countries, add to the fact that the wii-u is widely considered an add-on console, what is meant by that is that the system usually is an additional console to stand along side either a ps4, xbone, or pc. And with these gaming consoles and computers receiving some of the biggest releases right about this time you can assume that this game will probably not receive as much thought when it comes time to purchase.
Last opinion, the game isn't getting any good promotion. Some posters in stores, no wide commercialization (which Nintendo needs to address sooner rather than later). Factualy the only Publicization is the negative "censorship" debacle which has sprung up.
I'm not going into the numbers of boycotters and others who want to deal with it because by now everyone is sick of it on both sides of the argument.

Maybe you're like me who suddenly discovers games he wants to play once he finally buys the console. When I bought a ps3 two winters ago I didn't expect to buy Xillia 1 and 2, Anarchy Reigns, Ni No Kuni and a lot of other shit.
I'm not a super fan of platformers any more but Tropical Freeze really grew on me and 3D World is the only 3d Mario I've really liked in the last decade.
And even if you're not a huge fan of action games, Bayonetta 2 is still a great game.

Splatoon was plaster literally everywhere when it was coming out. From events to yoghurt shops, it was there, a nice 90s style commercial was playing too and the cheesiness of it put it on everyone's radar. Splatoon could not sell less than 500k with all that investment involved, unfortunately, XCX gets a few measly commercials and bad censorship rep to boot. That does not really help make sales. Most "hardcore gamers" have a PS4 to begin with this gen and emulated XBC with HD tectures and Xbox button prompts when they played it. It is doubtful that the sales number will actually let them even break even in the west from what I see.
