Is long dark still just rust: winter edition? It looks pretty neat but those open world survival games with no goal or point are so damn boring.

Haven't played Rust, but from what I've seen of it, they're not that alike.
TLD is more about keeping warm, dry, and not dying of starvation. At least, the early version I played a while back was.
The biggest problem with the long dark is that it has limited replay value because the world isn't large enough for a non procedurally generated survival game, and it doesn't even look hand crafted, except for a couple of kind of nice locations.
At some point they slowed down the character speed and restricted sprinting in an update. I bet they wanted to artificially increase the perception of world size by making you spend more time walking the short distances from point A to B, like bethesda with skyrim.

The Thing was pretty good.
Some Hitman games had a few games set in winter with lots of snow, they were quite neat.

Agree mostly. TLD actually makes it comfy though. Nothing like cooking a bunch of bear meat in your kitchen while a blizzard is pounding your house.pic related. It's the best place to set up shop.
How is TLD now btw? I haven't played it since last year.

Arkham origins is one of the only games that takes place at Christmas and I try to play it every yearI never get far because it sucks

They added a new location called Desolation Point and did some graphical stuff too it. The only bad thing is now in order to craft arrow heads you have to use a forge. The only one being at DP in the middle of fucking wolf country.
