I've just completed my first New Vegas DLC, Dead Money.
The good:
God-tier atmosphere
Good characters, good plot
Interesting enemy gimmicks (exploding their asses to keep them dead)
The bad
Bear traps, bear traps, BEAR TRAPS
Repetitive and annoying level design
Bullet-sponge enemies
Basically I enjoyed the plot, but playing through it was sometimes a chore.
Also, New Vegas thread
ok
hooray new vegas thread

I don't remember her butt being... quite like that.

Dead Money was decent in my book, the atmosphere was wonderfully dark and gloomy. That being said, it was still the worst of the New Vegas DLC in my opinion, for a number of reasons. It was horribly riddled by railroading which limited exploration dramatically, as well as that ungodly punisment for straying too far away from the intended play area. Not fun dying through a scripted event just for picking a route that the devs didn't want me to.
The plot and amtosphere were good, but they really could have made it a little more exploration-friendly and not railroad you with scripted deaths.

because it's modded, duh
New Vegas thread? Getting the mandatory essay out of the way.

Why would you mod the clothes to show the wrong vault number, though?
Reading some steam reviews, and supposedly they were going for a survival horror kind of thing. It's uh... Interesting to only realize that after playing through the entire DLC. The real horror was to endure the hologram guards and radio and alarm sections.

well the retexture was from a Fallout 3 mod since New Vegas doesn't have any. how she managed to get a vault 101 suit before i even installed the mod I have no idea. maybe it just came with the body mod or something

survival horror really isn't that scary. I'd say if you compare dead money to resident evil, which is generally considered survival horror, you'd find enough similarities to classify dead money in the same genre.

Dead Moneys atmosphere was truly god tier, also lied the story and the whole letting go thing, alsa characters were really good and had interesting stories, too bad the actual gameplay was a annoying chore
>>318308265
fucking hell that was a read.
Should I pick up one of the original Fallout games?
And what one?

If you like isometric, turn-based RPGs pirate both.
>complete dead money
>180k worth of caps in gold bars and pre-war money
I don't even... I can now buy every single weapon in the game and still not get rid of all this dosh.

I heard that FO1 has a time limit, how long is it?
>>318311869
>10 luck
>get as many sierra madre chips as possible playing blackjack
>why can't I hold all these stimpaks and doctor bags

>>318308201What mod?
Just got all the DLC, haven't played since NV came out.
What are some Must Have mods (including a mod manager)?
>>318312020
L O N G
>>318312020
Very long.
To put it into perspective, you'd have to purposely waste time seeking random encounters for real-time hours after doing literally everything else in the game besides the water chip quest before the time limit became a problem.
Then once you turn in the water chip, a new time limit starts that's even longer so you can really take your time finishing the game.
I am looking at rolling a mentally challenged character, lowest intelligence possible, then focus on strength, endurance, and luck. Also this will be an unarmed/melee run. I have never done this before, any advice?

Mod Organizer
YUP is absolutely necessary, Project Nevada very highly recommended. You almost certainly want a UI mod, probably MTUI or Darnified. A lot of people swear by jsawyer.esp.
The rest is up to you, look through the top mods on the nexus...
>>318313890
JSawyer. It's fantastic.
>>318314441
>>318314279
Jsawyer looks miserable, since he took out the "power armor carries itself" modification.
>>318315014
The new pacing is great - it makes New Vegas a ton more interesting to play. And that's really not much of a hindrance, especially if you're using it with Nevada - you can implant away your weight concerns eventually.
>>318315385
I guess I might be looking for something different, since Nevada seems to make it more of an FPS with stuff like bullet time.
Also, can I choose NOT to have my helmet obscure my vision like it does in the trailer?
>>318304663
>great characters like joshua graham, daniel, the new canaanite civilization in general, randall fucking clarke
>great atmosphere and setting like zion
>waste the story on tribal fucking shits
god. fucking. dammit. This DLC would have benefitted so much if the tribals were only a small part of it only necessary in order for Randall clarke to be the father in the caves and there were actually an involved antagonist rather than just random whitelegs and some guy that get's QTEd at the end of it all
i was really loving it in the middle of the DLC but after the story and all the quests ended I really saw how flat the story fell
