HC at least looks OK and plays decently. DP on the other hand is just a broken mess, with no story / 6 different stories depending on the ending you get, and just embarrassingly bad enemy and map design.
Plus it completely lacks Akira Yamaoka's music, and it shows.

The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.

I PRE-ORDERED that fucking mess back in the day, and it became instantly my biggest buyer's remorse in the series.
It's buggy as hell, framerate bombs down to single-digits, the controls are a total mess, art & enemy design is edgy 12yo level, there's no Akira's music, the writing & acting are terri-bad, the hyped "rain system" literally does nothing, and it has goddamn Korn's music tracks!

For those who think Downpour is acceptable, it's still on the absolute low end of "acceptable". Prioritize getting your hands on the Team Silent trilogy (quadrilogy if you want to give 4 a chance) and MAYBE Shattered Memories, then Downpour if you REALLY want it. Don't bother with anything else.

I wouldn't even put it that high.
I'd honestly rather replay HC instead. It at least isn't a broken mess, and you can pretend it to not be related to original series since it takes place (mostly) in another town, featuring completely new people, and so on.
But I will still repeat, that if you have any taste and standards, you only play the Team Silent's titles (1-4) and leave it at that.

The in-game map is so shit at helping you find your way around.
Everything looks exactly the same.
There is dumb shit like the way you need to go being blocked by garbage and a dumpster and you're supposed to know you can wedge yourself between a wall and the dumpster to inch past it. You go in circles all the time. The rain is near constant. The plot steals most of its plot beats and progression from the original games.
that said, it isn't the WORST game, if you are REALLY dying to visit Modern Day Silent Hill that is... about as "good" as you will get. It's kind of sad that SH3 looked better on fucking PS2 though

I actually just tried homecoming on the pc and i requested a refund after a couple of minutes. Crashes and loading times minutes long is one thing but i am getting around 20 fps regardless of the graphical settings.

If you like Silent Hill or classic survival horror, then Downpour is probably worth a playthrough. It's very mediocre, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
The story is interesting, but kind of broken if you stop to seriously analyze it. It's a little bit derivative of Silent Hill 2.

SH4 is probably the closest thing to seeing PT fully realized

In hindsight, Homecoming wasn't that bad.
Completely uninspired, but overall I'd say it's a solid experience. If you haven't played SH2 you might even think the story is good.
Also, Scarlet was creepy as fuck.

SH3 is actually notably LONGER than SH1-2.
Even the speedruns are longer than of the first two.
Yes, there's two other endings, but it's almost impossible to get them on your first run.
I'm more of a SH1 guy myself, but I can understand the SH3's appeal. It's definitely scarier and more challenging than SH2, looks gorgeous, and has the smoothest gameplay. Heather's also a lot more believable character than the past 2 MCs, and quite cutie.
I had a pleasure of witnessing certain anon play through SH1-3 for the first time ever just recently, and he too liked 3 the most.

Seriously, it managed to replace 0rigins as my worst game in series. It was that traumatic experience.
I can sign everything TwinPerfect said about the DP, and they didn't even demonstrate some of the problems I personally had with the game. Just shows that the devs were totally incompetent, didn't know what the fuck they were doing, and that UE3 was clearly too much for 7th gen consoles to handle.
