I know people that go to skate parks too, but you have to be blind to think skating hasn't dropped out of the mainstream since Tony Hawk/Margera's stuff in the late 90s-mid 00s. It's the same as it was with Peralta and the gang back in the late 70s/early 80s with pool skating, it eventually dropped off before making a resurgence thanks to Hawk.
It's definitely still a thing and always will be, but it's not as popular as it once was.
