Would be interesting if they tried porting them. They'd have to go back and completely redo the ui because it wouldn't work with a controller.

I'm hopeful they're not going to throw their audience under a bus with a new Stalker game being designed for consoles though because the first game they're making is Cossacks 3, a PC only RTS game.

Also looking for a publisher for consoles was one of the reasons the studio closed down I'm pretty sure.

They never went bankrupt. Sergiey just closed studio, because he already had shitloads of money and didn't want to put time game development. Recently they reopened and are making new Cossacks, probably because Sergiey probably wanted bunches of new sport cars.

Console version was never sure. Even few months before closing studio. In plans it was always PC, because that's what Easter Europe plays on and eventually console release different from PC version.
>>
>>318291264
More devs should use it in their games.
Looks much better than covering the entire screen with the scope reticle.
Probably the only good part of COD Ghosts.
>>
>>318291346
Sergey actually isn't in charge of the studio anymore, his brother is. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. He still owns everything though.

STALKER will likely never come to consoles.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-12-10-its-a-hard-time-for-ukraine-but-a-good-time-to-be-a-proud-ukrainian

>"We're pretty sure about our fans. The market we're in is quite old fashioned, they're not 16 year olds, they're 25-40 years old. We don't think free-to-play is the right model for the game we want to make. So we're making an old-fashioned, full price game, we think our audience will be happy about that. We're expecting a lot of our old audience!"

To me this sounds like they want their old PC fanbase and won't dumb down the game for consoles when they get around to finishing STALKER 2

I thought the new Metro game that's confirmed to be STALKER-like sandbox might be worth it but they've already said they're prioritizing consoles so fuck it

Metro has always been a console series so I don't know why that's surprising. They've had good graphics but everything else is very much console centered.

It's also expensive as fuck because you need to redraw the scene, basically doubling the work your GPU needs to do.

It's not practical in graphical blockbusters that have high-poly + high-res textures.

>B-but this game has it and it looks gorgeous!!!

99% of that game is post-processing and filters, along with clever use of particles.

Those textures and poly-counts are fucking awful.
>>
>>318292179
>Going on consoles doesn't mean they have to dumb it down
Literally name one time a series has changed priority from PC to consoles and hasn't been dumbed down to appeal to Jamal and Tyrone
>>
>>318292179
>Going on consoles doesn't mean they have to dumb it down
This might be true on paper for every game that goes from PC focused to console focused but still, in 99% of cases where this happens the game is dumbed down.

And most games don't have different UIs between console and PC so even that would most likely cause an issue with the PC version if the devs don't want to make two completely different UIs. And if they don't it will inevitably be the console UI they make.

Don't expect serious replies. Ever since /bsg/ on /vg/ spammed that one article that Ken Jewvine was quoted saying they had to scrap the level design of BS:I because consoles weren't powerful enough, "consoles aren't powerful enough to handle a hardcore game" has become a meme.

>It's also expensive as fuck because you need to redraw the scene, basically doubling the work your GPU needs to do.
Just like with the ever-lasting arguments with the mirrors (or lack of them) in modern games: that is just fucking bullshit.
For starters: the scene is NOT drawn twice. Let's take the simplest way to make actual mirrors:

>Mirror
>Takes up portion of the screen
>For what is in that portion of the screen, flip back to front and make a second frustrum pointing the other way
>THEN you render

You only render once, and rendering is THE taxing part of graphics. There is zero reason why there is no reflections in games beyond hiding terrible 3rd person models/animation (since it's a shit ton of effort to make always FPS player/always TPS NPC look good when suddenly viewed from the alternative) and how you might get yourself confused when you think about occlusion with mirrors on the scene.

Generally, if a mirror lets you see past a wall, you're rendering more scene and what do you know, most games either are open world and are struggling already on consoles OR they're optimised to run well but only in a cramped area that can suddenly be doubled awkwardly when reflecting around a corner.

Generally, the worst a mirror does is force a game engine to render what's in front of you and what's behind you, since normally you only bother trying to draw what is in the direction in front of you. If you view a mirror close up you only have to draw what's behind you really.

Now with the scopes, you don't even need to flip the picture! You just take a small portion what's already there on your main camera, and scale it up.

Games like Red Orchestra have had it since day 1, and RO2 already incorporates tons of modern shader effects, particles, dynamic lighting, and decently hi-res textures & models. Yet using the scope has no impact on the FPS for the said reasons.
>>
>>318292408
But its not taking priorities on console just a port of the already set design
>>
>>318292408
Crysis.
>Y-yes it has
Here's a list of why this is wrong
>More verticality introduced in levels
>Higher mobility
>Fleshed out the attachment system, added more diverse guns
>Suit also given "attachments" that change it's functionality allowing for more tactical play
>AI gets better every iteration, Crysis 1 AI was garbage, Crysis 3 AI was FEAR-tier with flanking, suppressive fire, actual communication, using grenades to flush the player out of cover, etc.
And yet I bet I can guess why you think it's become casual:
>No longer select between 4 suit modes in a radial menu, instead speed mode is activated when you sprint, strength is default and cloak and armor have hotkeys
And of course the fucking timeless
>IT'S LINEAR!!!!!
That ignores that Crysis 1 was linear as fuck with a shitload of invisible walls. And the overall level design was garbage, except for that ONE level half-way through the game when US Marines land on the island.

But no, continue memeing it up, kid.
>>

>>318293595
Would it be too taxing for devs to do "subtle aiming" when not looking down sights? It looks fucking retarded when the barrel of the gun points diagonal from the bottom to the middle of the screen.

When looking down a hall or open field, maybe make the gun drift out a little so it looks like it's going to actually hit something.

And it's not because they're upscaling a section of the map, it's actually because they're rendering the part you're scoping into separately.

And Metro is an linear console shooter, nothing in common with STALKER aside from being Russian and having horror elements
>>
>Events take place in the fictitious Norvinsk oblast (province), a special economic zone created as a transitional area between Russia and Europe. Great business conditions for big international companies attracted not only law-abiding firms, but corporations with shady dealings. Two years ago, Tarkov, the biggest city in the province, became a scene for a scandal caused by a transatlantic company. Six months later a political struggle escalated into armed conflict between UN peacemakers, the Russian military and two private military companies. Borders of the province were closed and those who ended up in the middle of a local war were separated from the outer world.

>Today Norvinsk oblast has become a scene for active agents of two private military companies hired by two sides of the conflict. USEC works for the scandalous international corporation Terra Group and provides local skirmishes in order to obstruct investigation of the company's activity by local authorities. Moreover, according to intelligence, USEC affords protection for the illegal practices of a foreign company. BEAR, which, on hearsay, was created by the direct order of Russian government, and operates as part of the official Norvinsk authorities and searches for any clues of illicit activity of the Terra Group.

>With every new day the situation in Norvinsk oblast becomes stranger and more complicated. Panic reigns as the city is plunged into armed conflict: citizens flee while those who stay begin to scavenge whatever they can. Taking the new realities as a matter of course and huddling up into well-armed gangs, scavs start their own battle for territories. Today, Tarkov is divided by unseen borders set by bandit groups. Up-for-anything, they won't stop short at killing innocents or waging a war against two private military companies.

No apocalyptic event? Meh. Not a fan of mundane settings.

How about you study some game engine programming or rendering pipelines before you try to educate people.

>>318294706
it may not have been, but tons of people still had problems running it during launch. Mostly AMD users, as always.

That being said, separately rendered scopes and reflections are not a huge feat to do, and definitely don't double your GPUs work. You only need to RENDER the scene once, and simple instancing of models and textures (=you need to load said model / texture only once, after which you can replicate x infinitum) has been a common thing since DX10 was introduced.
Post-processing filters and shit are mostly feather light and applied last on top of the whole image on the screen.

The suit is much less versatile, not sure how you can call it better. And while Crysis was always linear, 2 and 3 were more obviously so. Altogether the games play worse because of its console focus.
>>
>>318295925
The nanosuit and all of the players actions were made for a controller. The multiplayer player count and lack of vehicles are modelled after what works with consoles. The setting in game where giant buildings cover your view from going too far are, again, modelled for consoles.

The one in steam got ran to the ground and became shit, the standalone one stayed true to the devs creative ideas.

The Metro games are made by a Ukrainian studio however. The books are Russian. Same with Stalker. Games are Ukrainian but book and movie are Russian.

>Is it singleplayer game and announced for consoles?

Innovation goes to consoles when it wants to die. PC is where you get different games, unique gamplay and different experiences that aren't afraid to under sell.

Only if they get really popular and sell well, do they transition to consoles, where they promptly lose anything special and die off pathetically....... pathetically rich.

>The nanosuit and all of the players actions were made for a controller.
But HOW
>The multiplayer player count and lack of vehicles are modelled after what works with consoles
Battlefield never had an issue. Also the inclusion of multiplayer into the standard game would be a better argument. Crysis wars was sold separately from the first game.

>The setting in game where giant buildings cover your view from going too far are, again, modelled for consoles.
Confirmed for never playing Crysis 3.

Also Crysis 1 was literally a mountain obscuring your view on one side and an ocean that was flat to the horizon on the other. This argument is shit.

>>318296127
>The suit is much less versatile
It has just as many functions, with the inclusion of thermal vision instead of night vision and the countless upgrades to functionality you get, I'd argue the exact opposite. There is a lot more you can do with your suit in 2 and especially 3 than in the original. This makes me think you barely played them at all, or if you did, you did so reluctantly and without trying to do anything.

Playing Crysis 3 and going back to 1 makes 1 feel like the half-designed tech demo dressed up like a game that it was.

>The games play worse because of it's console focus
This has to be bait, Crysis 1 is a clunky mess of broken AI and poorly designed features. Having shacks that break when you punch them can only take them so far when the suit is much more limited and has far fewer features, as well as when the level design has literally no verticality.

>You just take a small portion what's already there on your main camera, and scale it up.
Fucking what? That's not how it works. A mod for Battlefield 2 does it this way and the image is jaggy and low res as fuck (as it should be if done that way). RO as other games like it do it via placing the camera further and rendering the scene in the scope.

I seriously doubt they're going to risk trying to disarm you/shoot the gun out of your hands when you're armed and can shoot back, just so they can rape you. You probably just look like a skinny dude if you're decked out in typical STALKER gear anyway.
