The metal gear franchises may be canon to the MGS franchise, but they were extremely limited from a technical standpoint which also limits all aspects, from graphics, gameplay, dialogue, music, voice acting (the amount of dialogue in a modern MGS game would exceed the filesize of the metal gear games now alone)
Solid has MGS1 which is pretty dated itself. He has his moments in MGS2, but that was Raiden's game. MGS4 whether you find it to be good or not, he was Old Snake.. it's a very drastic difference to make such a jump in age and character. BB/Venom are 50 in TPP yet they don't have aching backs, grunt or show signs of age at all. Solid just turns to an 80 yr old man, which really hurt his aesthetics, mgs is full of handsome and cool looking guys which was lost upon Old Snake.

I just really dislike how much the metal gear series shifted to fellating big boss and not even bothering to give solid snake a decent final game.
