Man I've seen so many great games come and die over the years, AoS being one of them. Had an absolute blast for a while, but even the servers people hosted a year or so ago weren't the same.. there was less energy, it was a newer version with auto jump (removed the need for bridges as much) and extra guns, just wasn't the same.
Sad times.
What changed in AOS. I only played the early build with /v/

Besides being sold and becoming a Tf2/Minecraft game, there were a lot of changes to the older game that brought down the overall feel.
According to /v/, the dev started here but started pandering to reddit and started adding new weapons, auto jump, more casualized ideas. A lot of them, using auto jumping up hills as an example, brought down the overall feel as the game, as without auto jump, getting up hills took time and you were really vulnerable, so it gave this nice dynamic that promoted building bridges and connecting forts and what not over the rivers, but once auto jump came in it really lowered how necessary was and it became a little less trench warfare and allowed you to be more yolo and run around.

I hated TF2 for years but a few months ago I went into it expecting to hate it still and found I couldn't help but like it. Maybe they've ballanced the weapons, maybe the f2p'ers have gotten better, maybe I just stopped sperging over hats. TF2 is great, I'm beating my old records as__Spyand having a lot of fun.
What don't you like about it? I can understand missing how the game played at launch but a lot of the additions were really for the better (new gamemodes like Payload, the Engineer update, etc).

Basically this. I might have to give the game a try again if they've actually bothered fixing their weapons and the players aren't as braindead as before.

I made friends on Endless who convinced me to try scam some guy's shield, told him I'd buff it or something, instantly logged out after he gave it to me..
I was a nice kid who got peer pressured so I felt terrible. I came back online minutes later and saw his character sitting down doing crying faces. I didn't log back on for the rest of the night :(
