I played the first MOH and MOH Resistance on PS1 back in the days.

iirc you could even play as a german sheperd acting like a human, dont remember if it was the original moh or Resistance though.
So, so many hours spent on that one bridge map with a friend, killing mercilessly each other, split screen deathmach was hilarious.

Yep. I fucking hate what they did to CS. I mean it's not that I hate GO as a game, but community has changed so much I can't play. Matchmaking killed it imho. Back when you used TS to organize a match everything was better, even the retarded players were better they were at least funny.
>>
>>318264571
I love matchmaking. More games need the 5vs5 small scale skirmishes where you can play with your friends. CSGO is a terrible game with bad mechanics and RNG bullshit but setting a game up is quick, easy and just convenient. Thats the biggest appeal of it.

I replayed it recently, when I decided to replay the Call of Duty series entirely (since MoHAA is pretty much Call of Duty 0).

Still great. I was surprised to see how much I remembered from it, since I played it when it first came out. Also, you can really see the beginnings of the modern "cinematic AAA war FPS" trend.

I thought it was cool how dark and gritty World at War was. Most WWII games show the war with rose tinted glasses on. I liked that WaW tried to show the war as a horrible, filthy, brutal conflict and I think instead the soundtrack did a good job of that.

>>318264858
Did you even 1.6? Half the fun was meeting people on TS and settin up teams to play. It took longer but it created friendships. Communities sprung up on TS servers, you knew those people like they were your neighbors, there were jokes, there was banter and a bit of tryharding and rage but. Now it just gives you 9 random people, half of them are tryhards that think they will become pro, they shout at you for every mistake and the game is just not fun when you get shouted at by strangers. It's much better to play in a community and all these games with matchmaking do this, they trade the social aspect for convinience and that is not a tradeoff i will ever like.
>>
>>318277069
I'd say it would make an interesting campaign and narrative experience. Especially If they made it a tactical shooter with the beginning you're pretty much steamrolling through Europe. And the middle showing the war effort slowing down but momentum is maintaining. By the final act when the Allied forces make landing in mainland Europe, show how everything becomes desperation as your men cling to the last shred of nationalistic pride they have left to fight.

And leave the fucking holocaust out of it. Maybe put in hints about forced labor camps and have the Vlasov Army show up. But beating the narrative over the head with the Holocaust would just feel cheap. Unless they can somehow weave it into the end scenario where you're just constantly retreating from Ivan and run past a death camp or something. Just don't make it feel like they couldn't wrap up the story effectively that they had to resort to "OH YEAH DONT FORGET FUCKIN NAZIS"

I played through MoHAA last year and it was certainly a good game, but you can see how a lot of the trends that would ruin shooter campaigns were starting during that era. I wanted to play the expansions but they were too much of a pain to get to work in widescreen.

would any autismos be willing enough to fuck around for an hour or two and try to get HD2 multiplayer to work?

played the game last year for the first time and fucking loved it.

>desert mission
>subobjective is to bring a small jeep as transport into the next mission
>fuck around the map, neutralize a german patrol that had a truck with an AA gun mounted onto the trailer
>disregard jeep, acquire the AA gun
>truck slow as fuck but w/e
>next mission has some kind of fucking vehicle convoy with shitton of troops
>continue to obliterate everything

Loved the SC-like movement speed mechanic, loved the inventory maintenance, loved the mission variety, loved the weapon selection. If AI wasn't that wonky it would be a perfect game.
>>
>>318280274
No offense, but when I come across SLs like you (low level but high rank in squad lead) I find a different squad immediately. I don't know who's worse: the low level guys who play only SL or the 80+ who haven't maxed out rifleman.

I remember CoD 1 and 2 at least had a lot of pair-set missions where you would take a location in one mission at one time of day then hold in the next, either to capture it or subsequently escape it. Those were the best.

Even CoD4 had missions like that too, but I don't seem to remember any such pairs in the later games.

I remember some stupid MOHAA mod where one person was a toilet and others tried to kill you, becoming the next toilet.
There was also this one server where before round starting you'd have two minutes or so to build up stuff from props - crate ladders reaching skies for snipers, inpenetrable mounted mg nests, box piles to go over some buildings etc.
Shit was unbalanced as hell but you'd get your turn to do it.

>>
>>318284352
I've never actually played. How is it?
>>
>>318281158
It's all about map knowledge. Unfortunately, that can really only be gained through experience. While you can learn he basic layout the map fairly easily, it takes more time to learn covered paths to advance, where enemy shooters are likely to be and where you can safely spawn your squad. I've played with some low level squad leaders who have been good and receptive to advice but I've been with too many who are reckless and headstrong. I could take my chances, but why bother when I could join a squad with a server regular? I play rifleman the majority of the time so I won't lose my role by switching squads.

In my opinion, it's all about a solid foundation. Rifleman will teach you all the important skills of the game. How to move to the point, how to shoot and since you have to aim, those extra milliseconds will give you time to identify targets. It'll also teach you to take a defensive approach to situations, since you'll be at a disadvantage toe-to-toe against an enemy with an automatic. All those skills transfer well to squad leader.

It's your game and you play how you see fit, but that's my perspective on things and I've been playing regularly since the beta. I don't play much these days since a lot of the regulars have moved on but it's still very dear to me.
