Will Wright & his team were planning a lot of features and some features were made in the Alpha and early beta stages but got cut because EA kept making them hurry up and having them reserve these features for a expansion which never happened.
The game wasn't AWFUL but it definitely could have been more. Much more. The game was also meant to be more realistic in terms of it's art style, but switched to a cartoony style.

If you pressed the 5 star button, the rating would be automatically added to the game's store page, and you could keep playing.
If you pressed 1-4, you would be DIRECTED TO THE GAME'S STORE PAGE TO LEAVE A REVIEW, and couldn't keep playing until you had left one.

Trip Hawkins the founder of EA left in the early 90s, after that the direction of the company changed and kept getting progressively worse. Part of the issue with gaming now is that it is so widespread that games are marketed to a much broader audience. The people who liked games 20 years ago couldn't get anyone else interested in them partially because they had no exposure to video games and partially because they weren't targeted to those people. Music, film, and now video games are all heading down the same path. The internet is the reason for these businesses doing what they do to squeeze every penny they can out of consumers. Consoles and handhelds aren't going to last another 10 years, phones and pcs will annihilate them even though they aren't designed for games exclusively. Sales for consoles will dwindle. Big business will keep trying to gauge customers but eventually they will crash and triple a will be a thing of the past. Games can't do live performance like musicians can, there are no theaters for big titles to make a tidy profit. Gaming will become the shovelware you see now on phones, small studios will still try to make games but without big money I see it shrinking back down to it's size in the 80s. A potential positive side effect of this is that some games might come from nowhere and surprise us all again but they won't be as polished or cutting edge because the big money just won't there anymore.
