As a true idort with every console, handheld, and a PC, I can safely say the Xbone is just trash. No good games at all, can't run what games it does have very well, and the graphics are always last gen tier compared to PS4. It's really quite embarrassing. All that being said, my personal GOTY is Arkham Knight. Before you go into a nerd rage state, I base this on these factors:
What is it? -A superhero game; of which there are not many that do the characters justice, and this one captures the true essence of Batman.
How much substance is there? -By the time I had completed all the missions and gotten the true ending, I had clocked about 10 hours into Arkham Knight. Pretty substantial for a AAA game I'd say. The story was Under the Red Hood with a new skin but I like comics so I was still amused. And all those side missions. It's like a Batman fan's dream to see all of those villains in one place.
How does it play? -Plays just about the same as the other Arkham games with a few new combat moves added in. I like how you can choose to play like a scrub or make your style more complex. My biggest beef was the Batmobile because it did seem forced, but not as much as everyone else says. I got used to the awkward Batmobile controls after a little bit but I like how you can still glide around for most of the game if you choose.
Replay value? -I'm on my third playthrough. I think just playing through with different skins is fun. Maybe I'm simple minded but what more can I ask for? It's really the best superhero game made to date.

Not too convincing considering it's full priced and has tons of DLC, and had multiple problems at launch that took forever to fix. Plus, it's another GRIMDURP MATURE game with violence and angst and too much story, so I wouldn't quite consider it anything over average.

That's why I shake my head at AAA games. They all think they need 8 figure graphics budgets and tons of "professional" voice acting, and DLC out the wazoo, and yet in the end that doesn't promote the experience or uplift it. If you ask me, quite a number of smaller titles offered just as much enjoyment without all the waste.

Not if I don't enjoy any of those hours. As short or long as anyone might consider Arkham Knight, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I think 10 hours flat was all the game needed to make you feel like a superhero. It was enough to keep me and many others going back. I tend to lose interest in a game and lose my immersion if it's anything over like 14 hours. Trying to cram that much shit down your throat is just bad. That's why I tend to stray away from RPG's. At least JRPG's.

Batman has always been grimdark by some stretch. He is a superhero because his parents were gunned down right in front of him as a child. He created his worst enemy, the Joker, by accident when he made him fall into a vat of acid. Of course Batman has had his light hearted wacky moments, but he is primarily a grimdark vigilante. He broods over his losses when he isn't fighting crime. All of his appearances are dark, it just depends on whether or not you notice it.

It's a Best Buy on Black Friday. They put all the hardware out so you can just grab it and check out and get going. Also Best buys have a policy where you have to show your receipt to a guy at the exit. This. Last gen the 360 tried it early on to attract japs but failed, and saw casuals flocking to the wii and so changed their tactics. The pstripletripleOGtriple stayed with the jap exclusives (primarily cause porting is cheaper than paying for timed exclusivity) and then expanded upon other genres. I hardly have AAA multiplats and I have 50+ games. The 360 had that metroidvania game and some early jap games but that wasn't enough to get me to buy it when the rest were multiplats.
I have yet to buy a ps4 but I will soon, I didn't get my first ps3 until 2010. My friend has the bone, and all he uses it for is netflix. My other friends have ps4's and actually play games on them. From my POV, getting a console that can provide exclusives and has a history of its predecessors having a shitload other exclusives is enough to get me to invest in it. The wiiu I was planning on getting eventually, but now I am unsure cause the probability of a newer version is making me wonder if I should even bother.
As an aside, anyone try out the new3ds? Worth it or should I wait for a newer iteration?

You're trying to lump it with a bunch of other games that do it for the sake of being dark and mature when Arkham Knight is just trying to be true to Batman. This actually has a purpose. Even while the game itself is gritty, there is still plenty of humor in it. Just pay attention to what the Riddler says sometimes. Nightwing is also a pretty fun character most of the time.
