At least all of Sony's remasters thus far have had a bit more work put in to them than up porting PS3 games, making them a higher resolution and framerate and calling it a day. Take the Uncharted Collection for instance, it features additional scene detail when compared to the PS3 versions, redone geometry in places where it looks dated, and a plethora of other minor graphical improvements. They even went back to Drake's Fortune and made the gunplay less shit.

It's pretty easy; just don't fuck up a simple formula:
1. Have multiplats that run well for all the people who don't know about the PC
2. Don't fuck over the consumer TOO much. They don't have region locking or the threat of always online, but PS Plus is still complete shit
3. Sell it at a decent price point.
It may not have any games that I want besides maybe P5 (also for PS3) and Bloodborne, but as a system it's a solid 7/10.
If they announce Yakuza 6 for US/another really good exclusive I can definitely see myself picking one up in a year when the deals are good.
Xbox hasn't had a good game since Halo 2 15 years ago, The Last of Us is truly a remarkable video game and that was only 3 yaers ago

The hypothetical PS5 will succeed even if Sony bumped up Sony Live or whatever it's called to 100 bucks a year, introduced region locking, and always online DRM much worse than the Xbone's. Why? Because they're Sony, they aren't MS and they aren't Nintendo. People will tie brands with certain experiences, and Sony has never once failed to meet consumer expectations. The PS3, as badly as it fucked up, still got GTA. It still got FF. It still got MGS. It still got all those Madden games. It still got all those Japanese games. This constant stream of familiarity is why the PS3 was able to catch up, and the reason why the PS4 is picking up where it left off.
